The racks on the pavement double up very conveniently, and in good volume, for Murrayfield match days. For that we can be grateful.

"and in good volume, for Murrayfield match days"

    That's good to know.

    Full?

In related news, a planning application has been submitted for converting the old toilet block in the park into a cafe:

Applicant "Peter Gregson Friends of Roseburn Park"

    Posted 7 years ago #
  5. So he's already knifing his Roseburn Cafe buddies in the back by trying to get a competing cafe open?

How will customers interact with the cycle route going right past the cafe? Will he end up calling for cyclists to be banned from the park because of too many near misses with coffee-juggling locals? ;-)

Does anyone know of a cheat sheet for what valid grounds of objection are? (I seem to think that merely disagreeing with something isn't a legitimate objection, you need to object along prescribed official categories.)

@Dave - Why should anyone object to a toilet/café in a park where a lot of people come and watch sports/walk the dog etc? No fan of Mr G but I won't object. The park could do with some improvements. Even passing cyclists might like to stop for a coffee.

@threefromleith - I don't think it competes. It's a long schlep from the park to Roseburn Village & I doubt if the clientele would overlap. Personally I think a van as at Saughton Park would probably be sufficient at peak sports/games time. As for knifing the cafes in the back - he's been talking about this for ever and the Friends of Roseburn Park held a consultation which was well attended.

As for me, I really look forward to the park being properly accessible when they finish the flood defences, and also to some improvements as it is fairly drab & could be a lot pleasanter.

There's nothing to object to. This seems like a good idea. I'm glad someone is doing it.

There is no definitive list of grounds for objection to a TRO. Objections simply have to be made in writing within 21 days of the draft order being published.

A hearing only has to be held in specific circumstances - even if an objection has been lodged. The only such criteria that might apply to the Roseburn order is probably:

"contains a provision which prohibits, or has the effect of prohibiting, the loading or unloading of vehicles in any road either at all times or for any period of time unless such period falls wholly between 0700 hours and 1000 hours or between 1600 hours and 1900 hours in any day"

There are other criteria relating to one way traffic and restrictions on buses, but I don't think these would apply to the scheme - although details aren't available just now, so I can't be 100% sure.

EDIT - oh, you mean object to the planning application. Simply has to be on a land use planning matter - look at the local development plan and see if the proposal contravenes any of the policies.

I think if you need to ask others for grounds for objection you probably shouldn't object.

Also, he is not trying to keep the cyclists out of Roseburn Park. He knows the only way to keep them out is to reroute them onto the A8 - & that of course is what he is objecting to.

At the Murrayfield CC one of the anti-cycle route guys did suggest banning cyclists there at the weekend and was pretty much laughed at. They do know cyclists are here to stay.

The bus lane on West Coates was closed for roadworks this evening, giving an idea of what things will be like with the cycle lane.

You may be surprised to hear that there was no traffic chaos.

The council have put up some more artists impressions of Roseburn with the cycle lane in.

As an enticement to join our Facebook Group, I'll give you a link to that rather than CEC's Web page (apologies for those not on FB)

I do like how the eastbound cycle lane at Haymarket goes straight into the back of the Taxi rank. (Haymarket image 3)

Cos there won't be an extra 1 or 2 taxis blocking the exit.

Even without any extra taxis, you'd still need to pull out around them, into the general traffic lane. Happy Days.

I noticed a few of the empty units at Haymarket Terrace are now occupied: the old Under Armour shop is now a coffee shop, further along there is what looks like a smart Italian cafe and deli (anyone been?) and another empty shop is being fitted out.

Along at Roseburn there are two new hairdressers, the Conservative's branch office is there and the old Chores At Work shop is being fitted out, as well as the property shop that opened a few months ago.

Maybe, just maybe, some businesses aren't that worried by the prospect of the bike lane?

    Stickman, they're probably fake shops.

@Arellcat - just a front for the secret headquarters of Spokes and the other members of the shadowy, all-powerful bike lobby

Woluld be interesting to know if rent/rates for the area have gone up or down in recent years.

@Stickman (in code) Having a Conservative Branch Office as the Bicycle Lobby's HQ was a master stroke.

Someone (not me) FOI'd to get the most recent traffic modelling. I don't think I've seen this published before - it's from December.

Conclusion: little impact on buses/traffic on A8. Closing Roseburn Gardens rat run will increase journey times, assuming same levels of traffic.

I guess this was requested by opponents, so get ready for the next phase of protest....

Interesting to note that, according to the artist, cyclists will not be expected to abandon the west bound carriageway at Haymarket in favour of using the cycle lane.

Yes, good that bikes on the road have been included in pix.

I'm sure quite a few people will stick to the road, but could also be going down Haymarket Yards or just to the next block along the road.

Rather disappointing to see that the crossing on York Place by the entrance to St James Centre remains two-stage. Cyclists and pedestrians will be corralled into tiny central island while buses and shoppers' cars proceed on either side.

Clearly the many comments during the consultation on the unsuitability of this arrangement have been disregarded.

Indeed. Perhaps they'll at least adjust the timings so that it doesn't take forever to actually get across though.

On the other hand, I like the renaming of North Clyde Street Lane to North Cycle Street Lane.

Also in the telegraph was this story

"A retired dentist whose bright yellow car was written off by vandals for damaging a picture postcard village view has bought a grey motor to avoid being targeted again.

Peter Maddox's beloved three-year-old Vauxhall Corsa was written off when it sustained £6,000 worth of damage after someone scratched "MOVE" into the bonnet.

Some of the windows of the banana-coloured car were also smashed in last month following a row that erupted in 2015.

It centred on complaints from photographers and tourists, who moaned it was "photobombing" their photos of picturesque Arlington Row in Bibury, Glos - where homes date back to the 14th Century."

Also in a bumper issue of torygraph resembling the earlier spoof newspaper from Rotherham (the chronicle). Work men's cafe inundated with diners after mistakenly being awarded a Michelin star.

    Fake fake fake news
