The owners of the cafe, which celebrates its centenary year in 2018, have said that they may be forced to close because of new parking charges for the west end.
Glasgow City Council’s new rules mean that businesses in the area have to pay £700 per vehicle - and customers have to feed the meter to visit.

Yet another cafe that wants to preserve free parking for its owner and still believes its customers all come by car.
Posted 7 years ago # -
When I was at uni the cafe was mostly occupied by students and lecturers, or by staff from the Western General across the road. The closure of the Western will have had a bigger effect than any tinkering with parking charges.

Latest Progress
The preliminary design for the full route between Roseburn and Picardy Place was approved in December 2016. This followed an extensive period of work with a range of project stakeholders over a three-month period to improve the design as far as possible.
The detailed design process is now underway, having commenced in February 2017. This stage of the project involves developing the approved preliminary design to a more detailed, technical level.
A dedicated Stakeholder Liaison Officer for the project will be appointed in the coming weeks. This officer will act as a key point of contact for all project stakeholders, including residents and businesses, and will maintain regular contact with the local community for the duration of the project. Contact details for the new Stakeholder Liaison Officer will be circulated in a future update.
Further information on the CCWEL project, including plans showing the approved preliminary design, are available on the project webpage at: http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20135/cycling_projects/1209/roseburn_to_leith_walk_cycle_route
Statutory Procedures
The Council intend to begin the statutory legal processes necessary to implement the changes in April 2017. This will give any interested parties the formal right to object to elements of the proposed changes or express other views. Any comments received will be referred to the Council’s Transport & Environment Committee (or Regulatory Committee for changes relating to taxi stances).
The first part of the route for which statutory orders will be progressed will be the section between Roseburn Park and Manor Place.

So that cretin is to have another go?
Posted 7 years ago # -
Can he have a go & launch his usual objections? I'd have thought that as a member of the working group he wouldn't be allowed to. (Although there's nothing to stop him masterminding objections through his NIMBY pensioner army, I suppose).

The Leith Walk project has been referred to the Scottish Government so I expect this will be as well.

No place has loomed larger as epicenter and epitome of today’s market-driven housing crisis than Brooklyn, New York. There, working-class and ethnic enclaves of an older, grittier New York hold out against the looming threat of gentrification-induced displacement catalyzed by the arrival of Ivy-educated millennials with their barista coffee and bike lanes.

Related: the consultation response to the proposed changes to Roseburn Park. Written comments are revealing of attitudes to bikes.

MCC's response to Consultation
• There is a confusion about who goes were. Have the pedestrians been observed using one
side of the path or the other. Certainly in the morning rush hour the primary school children
going to Roseburn School will cross the line chosen for bikes. Is a new path being laid
suitable for each mode of travel?
• In the past I do not think that bikes were allowed to be used in the park or along the water
side. So why is this invasion being allowed? I have a small amount of sympathy for the
cyclists as the main roads are over capacity during rush hours but not otherwise. Could the
use of parks and other pedestrian walkways be free of bikes outside rush hour?Posted 7 years ago # -
@hankchief I noted that too. Odd how it seems to be a personal response, not a group one. has a community councilllor gone rogue?
Posted 7 years ago # -
I will inquire, as a newly appointed member of MCC representing a fully constituted Local Interest Group. :-)

@hankchief - nice one

There is one in particular with form for this.

Sound the alarm - it's an INVASION!
Cyclists - thousands of 'em. Don't shoot until you can see the whites of their eyes!

I have a small amount of sympathy for the cyclists...
Forty years of Spokes, seven years of PoP. Not wasted after all.

@roseburncycle will be attempting to live tweet the Murrayfield hustings using #MurrayHust
Starting now
Posted 7 years ago # -
From the tweets it looks like the Tory candidate is opposed to Option A, wants only a 3 month trial and can't see how congestion will improve.
In stark contrast Frank Ross says he wouldn't want it removed after a trial and expects full benefits to be seen in 5-10 years. Damascene conversion!

"Frank Ross says he wouldn't want it removed after a trial and expects full benefits to be seen in 5-10 years"
Yes, that was impressive.

I'm hoping this is a storified record of the tweets tonight.

Had a call from Humza Yousef?
Posted 7 years ago # -
I don't mind what it was that convinced him, the fact that Frank is publically supporting the cycle route and talking about its impact on future generations can only be a good thing :-)

Totally agree!

Project update email sent yesterday: detailed design still progressing, TRO work for Roseburn-Haymarket finalising.
Also saw that parking will be suspended on the south side of Roseburn Terrace for 2 weeks from tomorrow for roadworks. Mayhem, chaos etc.
