    Still off topic.

(Brief answers please.) Why did school close and where did pupils move to?

“to open up the Water of Leith between the bridges with some decking so you can overlook it. Some members of the committee are dead against it”

How about if they let people park on it?

    Don't give them ideas...

There are some who already want to kybosh Rejuvanating Roseburn to allow more parking in Murrayfield Place.

    @chdot

Portobello High School and St. John's Primary were on adjacent sites on Duddinsgton Road. Both needed replacement.

A new PHS was built on Portobello Park.
A new SJP was built on part of old PHS site.
Remainder of old PHS and old SJP sites is now becoming a park.

Presumably their vision of the perfect future is a Roseburn that is composed entirely of parking and one "free flowing" mini motorway into town? People can then live in their cars - efficient, no?

Building on Stickman's suggestion why not underground the river so more valuable parking real estate can be created over the top?

Any update on when the TRO hearing will be held? Or are they just delaying in the expectation that the whole project gets binned?

Roseburn Terrace down to one lane each way this morning because of cars stopped in the Greenway. Long queues, bus delayed.

A bit further on there were the usual cars parked in the Greenway outside the Tesco on Haymarket Terrace. On the south side a fully loaded car transporter was stopped in the Greenway.

“A cycle lane will cause untold congestion and pollution on this key arterial route which must be kept clear for free-flowing traffic”

"PG is also rallying the traders to try to claim for loss of earnings due to the Cycle Route..."

Presumably he will also be encouraging them to pay the council for any increase in earning. Not to mention refunding the council for historical profit made from illegal use of loading/bus lanes.

To revert to the Murrayfield CC, re the decking over the Leith can't say I care for the look of it myself. However it's been agreed.

PG's other wheeze was to divert the plans into installing underground waste management instead. It was pointed out Sustrans would hardly fund this.

On match days, it's common to see a car parked close to Murrayfield Stadium being picked up by a giant cage/pulley and placed on the back of a truck. Now if this could only be generally deployed..

It's been agreed only so far as to be included in the consultation. If the wider population don't like it, it won't get built.

@HankChief - ok, should have been paying attention.

Like the proposed paving though. And I don't want to be negative about what might be improvements.

Also policeman in his report said there had been a rope/wire stretched over Roseburn Path at one point - presumably by kids. Hope no-one fell foul of that. I knew a guy who was injured badly and permanently by that prank.

Rosie - You'll remember the Police officer was part way through a report about bonfire night in Drylaw when he was cut off by the chair as it wasn't relevant to Murrayfield. I caught up with officer at Corstorphine's Christmas tree lights switch on on Wednesday night and found out the end of the story - its a cracker :)

@HankChief - yes, I applaud stopping people from rambling on, but I was wanting to hear the rest of that story and I think other people did too. I thought the poor pc looked quite dashed. What did happen? Did they start firing rockets back?

Oh great, get ready for an EEN article with quotes from him on how evil Sustrans aren’t funding things the local community demand and it’s all the militant cycle lobby’s fault.

So, I was heading home tonight down Roseburn Gardens and got towards the bottom when a car came round the corner fast and cut off the corner. I flagged them down and asked them politely not to cut the corner.

They didn't seem too excited by my request.

Meanwhile, a little queue had built up behind including a couple using their horn who had also cut the corner, so I went back and had a word with them too. Cue more beeping and the queue back to Roseburn Street.

So I thought I'd record a little video just to show how bad it gets at 4.30pm on a Tuesday in December. Closing the rat run can't come soon enough...

“Gregson reported that he, in his personal capacity, is working with the shopkeepers on Roseburn Terrace and Haymarket Terrace to establish a compensation scheme to protect them from any negative financial consequences of the CCWEL. He will be holding public meetings at Roseburn and Haymarket.”

    Oh super.

This would require a reasonably robust measurement of the effects of the CCWEL on businesses.

Given this metric, a logical part of the compensation scheme would be a condition that where there is an increase in custom after the CCWEL is built the traders pay part of their increased profits into a council active travel fund.

Anyone able to go along to the meetings and suggest this?

Nice. I would support this scheme.

ETA if he's proposing compensation for self reported loss with no checks/audit I would assume any half awake shopkeeper would leap joyously on the whole thing, bike lane and all, because presumably everyone will report the maximum compensatable losses regardless of actuality?

So according to this report from the Active Travel Forum the section from Roseburn to Haymarket isn’t expected to start being built until spring 2020.

As far as I can remember this is the only properly segregated bit of the whole route. Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless.

5 years after the start of this thread! With so little new stuff in the council's plans it's all rather depressing. When the shopkeepers revenues increase they should be compensated by gregson for loss of past earnings.

I don't suppose the protagonist is proposing taking revenue generated from illegal parking into account.

Remember this project is the one that is highlighted as taking all council resources when it's pointed out that every other cycling project came to a halt.

It's why the Roads department needs to be told to take ownership of cycling as a part of the rolling resurfacing programme so that quality facilities begin to 'just happen'

In the most basic form, a solid white line and kerb splitters a-la Leith Walk can be retrofitted onto any road without a TRO

If I understand it correctly that sadly isn't the case if loading or parking bays exist.
