@Stickman - to be fair, the traffic is really banking up on Roseburn Street and Russell Road at peak times.

Time to not categorically rule out a congestion charge

@Trixie - yes, the vendetta tone is disturbing.

@Arellcat
Defamation proceedings are for millionaires and the crowd-funded in Scotland. There is no legal recourse for the likes of us.
On the plus side councillors, being ordinary people like us, will not want to give in to this stuff.

From John Lamb's piece:
Ironically, the parked vehicles are good for air quality, because the inside lanes provide an area in which exhaust gases can dilute
Ironically, the parked vehicles are good for air quality, because their engines are not running. FTFY.
Things that cause air pollution:
- Engines.
Things that do not cause air pollution:
- Bike lanes.
- Traffic lights.
- Road narrowings.
- Location of pollution monitors.
- Location of parking bays.
- Street canyons.
- 20mph limits.Posted 5 years ago # -
“Things that do not cause air pollution:
- Street canyons.”
Obviously that’s true, but there is some sort of ‘canyon effect’ that may or may not trap pollution and concentrate it in certain areas.
There are obviously two solutions to this -
1 remove one side of the street (perhaps leave the shops?).
2 reduce the polluting traffic (clearly the objectionable people will be advocating Congestion Charging?).

Presumably they’ll all be going to this, to add the benefit of their wisdom -

I thought the obvious solution was to have a bike lane on the north side of Roseburn Terrace.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Agreed Rosie, the bike lanes should be on both sides.
We could even go to the latest Dutch standard and have 4m bidirectional bike lanes on both sides.

“I thought the obvious solution was to have a bike lane on the north side of Roseburn Terrace.”
Obviously that’s a different sort of obvious...

There are obviously two solutions to this -
Stilts. The A8 should go on stilts. Four lanes.

FOUR??!
Posted 5 years ago # -
Third solution: Roseburn should be walled-up, hermetically sealed and it’s residents left to create petitions against each other until a final victor emerges.

Surely there must be a way for David Bol to get his photo removed from the GoFundMe?
Posted 5 years ago # -
Gofundme's T&Cs are clear that they only take stuff down in case of fraud.
Apart from CCE the internet is a cross between deep space and the wild west.

“they only take stuff down in case of fraud”
WELL
Is PG really willing to give DB £100???

Am I right in thinking this venom was triggered by Mr Bol, quite understandably, calling PG an anti-cycling campaigner?
Posted 5 years ago # -
Presume DB has looked up his ‘benefactor’.

"At what point does Roseburn's most earnest correspondent's verbally threatening behaviour cross the line into libel and defamation?"
@arellcat, a pedant writes:
Only defamation in Scotland, which to a large extent covers both slander and libel, which are English actions.

Genuinely, I think Peter needs help.

Friends of Roseburn Park have just got the old armoury listed as an historic building, meaning it can't be replaced by a clubhouse for the Wanderers. This has aroused fury in many.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Who are the members of Friends of Roseburn Park? The link has one comment saying well done and a lot of people being critical. The word friend is a bit like when our friend PG says he is not an anti cycling campaigner?
Posted 5 years ago # -
Don't know how many members they have. Only a handful I imagine. They do stuff like planting trees and bulbs, for which they call for volunteers, as well as chase funding for play parks, carved seats and a Sutrans survey to take the Roseburn path behind the falling-down toilets.
I don't know where I stand on the Wanderers, as I have hardly thought about it. The default position at the Murrayfield CC is that they are a Bad Thing.
Posted 5 years ago # -
@Rosie Isn't the default position at MCC that all things are a bad thing?
Posted 5 years ago # -
@cyclealex, very close. All other things are a bad thing but the thing called MCC is a good thing? MCC is a local MCC for local MCC people

Could go into the Rubbish Parking thread, but serial pavement parkers (and bike lane opponents) 3D Cakes are getting some justifiably bad publicity. Their van was parked on the pavement at Gylemuir Road (double yellows) and blocked a wheelchair user from getting past. Driver response when challenged- “I don’t care”.

They are being very apologetic about it now it’s being shared widely...
