PGTips has just mentioned the trams and that he hates consultants. Woo.

Council have carried out a new cycle count: https://twitter.com/roseburncycle/status/1191311281325793281?s=21

I didn't even know there was an automatic cycle counter on West Coates.

I've been thinking about doing an FOI request for all the automated cycle counter data for a while now. Think it would be interesting to analyse. But NO TIME.
For those following the hearing; I'm using a very short list, but I'll add anyone else commenting on the hearing: https://twitter.com/chrisfl/lists/ccwel

Took a whole two hours for Edinburgh is hilly and wet to be mentioned.

PG now complaining about how narrow the cycleway is on Roseburn Terrace. Didn’t he essentially cause this from complaining about parking/loading?
Posted 5 years ago # -
@CycleAlex - yes.
Posted 5 years ago # -
NCN1: Not narrow, no conflict
CCWEL: Too narrow, unusable
Go figure.

Won't anyone accept my proposal to put a dual carriageway A8 on stilts through Roseburn?

Is there room in your plan for a multi-storey car park?

It’s beyond parody at this point https://twitter.com/roseburncycle/status/1191363420584652801?s=21
@IRWATS Should’ve objected. Would have got two days to shout at the council & SG about it.

@Frenchy
You know Edinburgh 'castle'? Loads of room up there.

BTW - MCC is tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 7.30pm...

@HankChief You got a special mention as the only person who cycles in your part because of the hills!
Didn't tweet much in the afternoon because it just become the same topic over and over (Option A/B) and NCN1.
Reporter said he couldn't actually recommend major modifications and that if he agreed with one of PGTips suggestions (there were many), he would have to reject the order and the council would have to start the whole thing over.
He mentioned quite a bit about the consequences of rejecting the order which worried me. Hopefully just procedure.

Thanks for seeing it through Alex. A helpful insight into what goes on in a hearing. It was a new on for all of us...

Your turn tomorrow @Hankchief - you and @cyclealex deserve medals. Also @hankchief - a lifetime award

I was at the Cycling Scotland Conference workshop this afternoon on the Edinburgh design standards - interestingly, the example they decided to get us all practising on was ... Roseburn Terrace. I don't think PG would have liked some of the ideas the group came up with. I thought the council's own plans (we only saw a tiny bit at the end) looked okay. It seemed like a brave example to use though!

@Alex again tomorrow, I hope.
I'm saving myself for tomorrow night's MCC when no doubt we'll get to hear all about it...
Posted 5 years ago # -
@hankchief, yes sorry i meant you going to MCC tomorrow night, go @cyclealex if you have the stomach for it
Posted 5 years ago # -
I might even go to MCC afterwards. Truly make it a day not to remember

Oh, I forgot to mention PGs sob story! When we went on to the Roseburn Terrace part of the RSO he suddenly looked very sad and started saying that who he really cares about are the traders. He just wants them to do well and fears CCWEL will ruin them and the community.
Miraculously he was absolutely fine once the reporter acknowledged his strong feelings.

Alex - thanks a lot for the tweets. I had thought of going to the hearing but would have been tearing my hair out and gnashing my teeth.
Posted 5 years ago # -
@CycleAlex - great work yesterday, thanks for your updates. You were far more patient that I could have been.
What was the format for the hearing? Did PG get free reign to speak or did the council reps have the opportunity to rebut his nonsense?
Posted 5 years ago # -
@Rosie I do love some government bureaucracy! Sadly got called away first thing this morning but I should be there from 14:00 for the exciting stuff about loading.
@Stickman The council/PG weren’t allowed to interrupt in each other - at the end of their speeches (which usually lasted 20+ minutes) the other party got a small chance to comment on what had been said. Usually structured as “Do you agree with what the council has said?” etc.
Made it more friendly but allowed the nonsense he was saying to go unchallenged until the council were able to speak at the end.

Apparently Adam McVey has been telling the Cycling Scotland conference that the council is fully behind CCWEL and expects it to get through the Reporter process. Hope he’s right.

It has taken longer to authorise the CCWEL than the Queensferry Crossing and its associated link roads - the Forth Replacement Crossing study was published in June 2007, Ministers announced the go-ahead for a cable stayed bridge on 19 December 2007 and the Act authorising its construction received Royal Assent on 20 January 2011.

@Alex is back in the room and on twitter @RoseburnCycle

yay! Thanks for the headsup.

There have been some last minute uploads to the DPEA website - looks like PG is going to play the joker of suggesting the “compromise” of sending the route down the lane behind the Tesco.
