It was an absolute honour to be asked to read a lesson (Luke 2.8-16) at St Mary's Cathedral on Palmerston Place this evening. This was in recognition of the considerate way CCWEL is being delivered.

It was a lovely Christmas service, with fantastic music

Genuinely struggling to understand how a gas main that runs under a road open to 44 tonne HGVs needs moved to accommodate a lane for bikes. The minimum depth for a gas main is 750mm under the surface of a carriageway - the bike lane works shouldn't really get close to it.

    As suggested previously…

    Dear all,

Please accept our apologies, it has been brought to our attention that there is a typo in the previously release Project Update.

    Where it states:

“This diversion, and our subsequent works to construct the cycleway in this area, will require a closure of Haymarket Yards to all eastbound traffic from March to October 2023.”

    This should read:

“This diversion, and our subsequent works to construct the cycleway in this area, will require a closure of Haymarket Terrace to all eastbound traffic from March to October 2023.”

Well, that was a turn up for the books...

PGTips complaining about the difficulty he is having turning right on his bike from Roseburn St into Russell Rd...

I pointed out the actual cycle path they have built on the other side of Roseburn St for this very manoeuvre as it seems to have slipped his attention it its unfinished state.

He then complain it was further to cycle...

I took some delight in pointing out his epiphany from previously wanting (other) cyclists to go round the houses rather than having a direct route...

I had a leaflet today about the by-election in the Corstorphine/Murrayfield ward (Conservative and Unionist). The front page, all about compensation for the traders. The back page, a survey, with an option to support compensation for the traders. There was also a box for "Are there any other issues in the area that you are concerned about?" Yes - the CCWEL should be extended right along the A8 instead of going through Roseburn Park.

Guess who's standing as an independent anti-CCWEL candidate in the by-election?

Hunt up his manifesto on kids not suits at you own pleasure.

P.s. Don't link from here else he will see where the traffic is coming from and don't publicise wider else the attention will go to his head...

On the other hand, your ballot paper will also have Chris Young - co-chair of Low Traffic Corstorphine - who is the Green candidate: https://www.edinburghgreens.org.uk/news/edinburgh-green-select-candidate-for-corstorphine-murrayfield-by-election/

Someone has been posting his manifesto on the Roseburn and Murrayfield Blether FB group. I posted a comment about projects getting hung up in consultation because of vexatious objections and he has deleted that post...

@LivM Or his posts have been reported to the group's admin...

@chdot - late 2015 was the first public consultation on CCWEL but work had been done within the council for while up until then.

    Very true.

Let’s call it 10 years and not finished.

@Hankchief I see that the group admins have decided that the Facebook group is a no-campaigning page :)

@Frenchy - thanks for the info about the Green candidate, who looks good.

The Lib Dems have sent a leaflet showing their 2 present councillors frowning earnestly over gullies.

Slightly concerned that CEC keeps calling this a “continuous pavement”.

Remains to be seen if (most) drivers understand it - and even obey give way markings.

The good news is that the bollards are being installed in Roseburn. Glad they didn't wait for the inevitable rash of parking in the cycle lane to occur before doing it.
The bad news is that the entrance to Wester Coates Terrace isn't holding up well. The paving slaps have already cracked on the ramp up & the paint marking the Give Way line is already faded and flaking off. It really needs to be as conspicuous as possible given the novelty of the junction design.

    This’ll be popular…

Edinburgh council has announced that a busy stretch of road at Haymarket is to be closed in one direction for up to eight months while a new segregated cycle lane is installed. A section of Haymarket Terrace, a key route into the city from the west, will be closed eastbound from April 3 to allow work on the latest stage of the City Centre West to East Link (CCWEL) cycle route.

A diversion route will be put in place, but the closure is still expected to lead to traffic disruption and delays. Haymarket Terrace will be closed eastbound between its junctions with Rosebery Crescent and Magdala Crescent until November 2023. Traffic will be diverted via Magdala Crescent, Eglinton Crescent, Palmerston Place, Lansdowne Crescent and Grosvenor Street, with temporary bus stops set up along the route.

Burst water main on the north side of Roseburn Terrace.

What are the chances that Scottish Water restore the new cycle lane to its almost-pristine condition?

Partly depends how much interest CEC takes…

The leak appeared to be in the middle of the road, "where all the cyclists are" ;)

So hopefully the cycle lane won't be affected - will be interesting to see how the cycle lane drainage holds out - an early warning of imminent puddles(?)

The section from Roseburn to Magdala Crescent was being well used this morning, including several kids going to school.
