If the shops serve local folk why would they be bothered about parking? Surely people still walk to their local shops? Please say this is true.

I was just popping along to see what the badly-printed QR code was for and for a photo. A couple of the shops appeared to have shopkeeps haranguing customers at their tills, but I couldn't hang around to listen. The most depressing bit is that the posters are all "SAY NO TO THE TRACK" rather than "NEGOTIATE A REASONABLE SOLUTION OVER THIS SHORT STRETCH WHILST PRESERVING THE IMPLEMENTATION AS AN WHOLE".

If Roseburn Cafe came up with an innovative way to keep a bacon roll warm until I reached the office, I'd be very tempted to stop (not that I commute that way, but still). The smell of bacon is incredibly hard to resist.

Maybe they could wrap the bacon in foil for self assembly later? They could also make a nice side business flogging bottle cage compatible thermos flasks.

Short section on STV News about this tonight. Mr Roseburn Cafe and Mr Art Shop both complaining about loss of parking. Mr Cafe saying that he'll lose his morning rush.

No mention that it's loading that will be affected or the current parking restrictions.

Adam McVey said that the consultation will take all views into account to try to come up with a solution.

"Surely people still walk to their local shops? "

    I wouldn't bet on it.

Are they actually losing any legal parking? Morning rush of illegally parked vans is it?

Passing through Roseburn eastbound this evening, I couldn't find any parking spaces on that side of the road. Just bus stop, bus lane, lots of red lines and a few waiting bays.

    "and a few waiting bays"

    You mean loading?

    From earlier -

    "

    Northside

    · Loading Bays – 43m, Off peak loading (Mon – Fri 9:30am-4pm, Sat 9:30-1pm) This includes Blue badge holders all day and Parking (Sat 1:30-6:30pm)

    "

    More - http://www.citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=15760&page=23#post-209970

    So

    NO weekday parking

    NO rush hour loading

Collecting a snack does NOT count as loading

Are shops really relying on customers who break the law?

Do they really expect CEC and law-abiding residents to accept this and enable it to continue?

Do the shops really get a significant amount of business this way?

I suspect it is worth pointing out these basic facts to any councillors who are citing the concerns of local businesses as the reason for their opposition (e.g.. Cllr Ross).

That is the briefing I have given the councillor I know well.

Spurred on by Spokes, I've directly asked the Edinburgh Western Holyrood candidates to sign my petition.

Given they have all grasped that Air Pollution is a big thing for us it will be interesting to see if they will back it up by supporting something that will actually make a difference.

    1. SPOKES compliments the Council on its ambition in producing these proposals, which we warmly welcome.

    2. This Route addresses the urgent need to give cyclists a way to and through the city centre and offers substantial benefits to the city as a whole in terms of improved environmental quality and health benefits from increased active travel. It makes cycle commuting and other everyday cycle journeys much more viable by providing inter-connections between earlier cycle projects, which have been mainly located away from the city centre. Spokes welcomes that this Route will form a vital missing city centre link between a large number of existing and proposed cycle routes, including:

great stuff from spokes (although I wish they wouldn't oppose raised crossings for pedestrians)

"although I wish they wouldn't oppose raised crossings for pedestrians"

Is that because in places with 'proper' cycle infrastructure they don't have them?

Roseburn Bar has a poster up. Do they get much custom from drivers?

I think that to this plan ticks 8 out of 10 obstacles listed here:

Only "maintenance" and "drainage" haven't been mentioned yet.

Roseburn Bar in theory shouldn't get custom from drivers. However I do meet a pal there who leaves her car there & gets a taxi home.

Usual story: campaigners make claims about design; council says "no, look at the plans". Same old stuff about loss of parking (not loading bays).

P**** G***** making his usual statement about the safe pleasant route via Balbirnie. Also repeating his lie (and I'm calling it a lie) about interaction with buses.

And for a bit of variety, Mr Angry Art Shop is pictured with a bike.

He said: “As a cyclist myself, I’d be advising my kids to live longer by taking the [National Cycle Route 1] by Balbirnie.

    "

Really is time Sustrans said something like 'we are looking forward to this high quality direct section of NCN1'.

I have a notion of calling every B road in the country an A road. Then when drivers complain about poor trunk roads, you could tell them, but there's a great network of A roads.

That Herald article is much better and more balanced than the frothing, one-sided stuff put out by the EEN. It actually analyses the issues and gives different points of view. Real reporting! You know, like in the olden days...

@chdot, the child lives longer by taking balbirnie until they get to the tram tracks and the 6 inch wide cycle lane?

"As a cyclist myself, I think the government should enact legislation so that all cyclists must be preceded by a man waving a red flag, and warning decent, hard working, otherwise law abiding motorists of the cyclist's approach via a loudhailer. Something like DANGER! CYCLIST APPROACHING! would do the trick. I'm only too aware what a business destroying menace cyclists are, being one myself. I've even been known to remove parking spaces for hard pressed Edinburgh shopkeepers in the dead of night. Something must be done about me and people like me!"
