"the problem of how to safely get from NEPN to Roseburn Park"

    Exactly.

When I'm kiddy transporting, coming from Roseburn Park heading to NEPN, I take the fiddly route round the back of Roseburn onto Russell Road and then up the zigzags. Not remotely a direct route and has moments of increased risk (although not as bad as going on the A8).

The proposal would make this straightforward and even allow us to stop for a cake.

@chdot: Campbell Avenue properties jointly own the woodland through which the muddy path passes (level route). 73 Murrayfield Gardens owns the path from MG to CA with steps. Including all the liability for damages / injuries caused by accidents and incidents on that path. Hmmm...

@Hankchief "stop for a piece of cake" look! Increased business by improving the amenity of the Roseburn main road!
Business owners: "but what about my delivery vans?"
Me: "tell them to get a trolley"

"tell them to get a trolley"

Probably a drivers' employers' health and safety responsibility already!

None of the shopkeeps or agents thereof were present at the Coates-Melville stakeholder workshop, where the suggestion was raised that it would be relatively cheap to buy each affected shop a sack barrow if they were no longer able to have their delivery-entities throw their deliveries directly through their doors.

Then you'd have to supply sack barrow storage pods...

I do live in Roseburn & have vaguely considered turning up to Murrayfield Council shindigs. Would that be worthwhile though? It doesn't look like a fun occasion.

@rosie I think it would be worthwhile for the team CCE if you could go. To share your pain I will attend the one in Balerno which has similar scintillating agenda

@rosie I think it is worth going along - we need to get our voice heard or it will think that the most important thing is being able to park a removal van outside number 42...

Cameron Buchanan MSP (one of the MSPs on MCC) has now signed the 'anti' petition.

I wonder whether the politicians feel they are representing their constituents because of

    1. their own personal views
    2. what they hear from 30 people at MCC or
    3. other communications from constituents.

I think it is time for us all to be writing to our politicians telling them why we support it as well as completing the Consultation

Ease of shopping / direct route / access to NEPN / improved local environment / tackling air pollution / tackling obesity - you choose.

I think an important point to make to politicians is that Edinburgh's "competition" is stealing a march on us by developing segregated cycle lanes. First mention that New York, Seville, Barcelona etc. are powering ahead with their plans and then highlight the reasons why - pollution/health etc. Then mention you are concerned that Edinburgh is being left behind by more forward looking cities. An appeal to civic pride can be very strong, certainly more effective than a list of the reasons why cycle lanes are great (which they are).

If you want to work on Cameron Buchannan then highlight how the scheme will improve matters for people with mobility impairments - particularly pedestrian priority at junctions, raised crossings making it easier to get across side streets and new pedestrian crossings over major roads. As a wheelchair user he has a very real interest in these matters. Also wouldn't hurt to mention the business benefits - he is a Tory after all.

I agree with hankchief's suggestions. Take a pal to relieve the boredom? What I often say is that these consultations and MSPs need non-cyclists supporting the initiatives as otherwise we are put into a niche category. These initiatives are good for everyone. As a driver I welcome this initiative, it does not appear to impact on me driving into town and indeed it is encouraging me to try to cycle rather than continue to congest or pollute our fair city. This farsighted approach by city of Edinburgh really appeals to me as other continental cities appear to have banned the car entirely whereas Edinburgh is taking a measured approach etc etc

    There's also this -

    http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/school-car-ban-set-to-broaden-1-3995469

    Plus the 'controversial' 20mph schemes.

A lot of credit has to go to that 'hated woman' Lesley Hinds. She clearly has the backing of Andrew Burns but not, it seems, all Labour councillors - certainly when it comes to 'spending money on cycling'.

It's hard to know whether politicians from other parties are just being 'oppositional' or just stuck in the past.

@MediumDave I tried to put together joined up map of all the pdfs, which are linked on page 1 of this thread.

Links again below, can't seem to embed images from dropbox though

"put together joined up map of all the pdfs"

    Well done, useful.

"can't seem to embed images from dropbox though"

That's because they are PDFs not JPEGs.

@chdot - Also uploaded png images at lower res, but they don't embed :/
I think the dropbox sharing link is a web-page not a direct link to the image

I've uploaded it to Flickr which converts it to a JPEG

Hadn't realised there was a plan to deal with the awful tram crossing on Princes Street.

If you're going to compare Edinburgh to its competitors possibly a better starting point would be Manchester.

I've read a couple of articles talking about office uptake in Edinburgh and comparing directly to there. Also seems to be building a knowledge-based, tech-centred economy in the same way as Edinburgh.

More importantly is investing heavily in mass transit and cycling. Or at least it was when I lived there.

Maybe ask some more (non-CCE!) locals?

OK, will go. If any other citizen of the Murrayfield Mountains and the Roseburn (Flood)plains wants to go let me know and we can introduce ourselves.

@HankChief - good points & also the cycle tourism aspect. Quite a lot of B&Bs along the A8 not to mention airbnbs.

Better not sit together. Last time I went to a community council meeting and another CCE member attended, they concluded we were married! Took years to dissuade them of this notion.

@SRD how much are 'members of the public' able to speak?

Able to speak, but not vote. Meetings are 'conducted in public', but are not 'public meetings'.

I just passed along both Roseburn Terrace and Haymarket Terrace. Despite this being what would be a peak shopping time there was only one car parked.

I notice that the Tesco on the corner of Russell Road has an anti- petition on the cash desk to sign. That is a little annoying. I wonder who decided that they should take sides on this. I was going to whinge at the boy behind the counter, but I suspect it has nothing to do with him: I wonder if there is anyone at Tesco Head Office to whom we should complain. The good news is that there are only about 5 signatures on the sheet of paper. Hardly a surprise as I suspect a lot of people using that shop have not arrived by car. Still, it shows that there is an elememt of opposition that we need to fight.

I tweeted Tesco to ask why the store has the petition.
