As I believe I've stated before, for Holyrood I will be voting Green on the regional list ballot paper.

As I don't have a Green candidate in the constituency of Edinburgh North & Leith (though anyone in Edinburgh Central can vote for Alison Johnstone should they wish), I have a free choice of local candidates. I'm not really tempted to vote Tory, nor Lib Dem. That leaves the SNP and Labour: the SNP have selected a young lawyer who doesn't seem to have any political experience beyond IndyRef; Labour have selected Cllr Lesley Hinds.

I shall be voting for Lesley in the constituency ballot, on the basis that she is the best candidate in the absence of one standing for my preferred party, the Greens.

I've decided to vote green too for the list vote. Totally fed up with the crap that cyclists have to put up with and want someone in who will actually do something rather than talk about it.

I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of the jokers standing for in my constituency so drew and little box and ticked none of the above.

    Voted green on the list.

On the bus this morning, but passing through Roseburn I saw two cyclists using the roadwork cones as a segregated cycle route!

Parking report: three vans/one lorry on the north side. One definitely loading, others were outside Roseburn Cafe so who knows. South side - at a time where there is no stopping there were three cars and one van, and a skip lorry was in the process of parking up, facing the wrong way into traffic.

Frank Ross will be tweeting angrily about drivers misbehaving I'm sure.

Don't forget that Alex Cole-Hamilton the Lib Dem candidate for Edinburgh Western is supporting the Roseburn to Leith plans. He has also answered yes to all three Walk, Cycle, Vote questions:
    http://walkcyclevote.scot/candidate-info/?cons=134940

Toni Giugliano has too but presumably if he get's elected he has to sign a gagging order promising to agree with the party line on funding cars before communities.

Return journey: the 3D Cakes can doesn't appear to have moved from its position 3 hours ago, and the Chores at Work van is parked in its usual spot outside the shop. Neither appeared to be loading.

The Roseburn shops aren't concerned about customer parking. They are concerned about their own parking.

Alex Cole-Hamilton is also on the Lib Dem list ballot for many of us.

In New York - and, actually, Camden did this too - the city planners trialled proposed new cycle routes with temporary planters, to check traffic flow, before making a final decision and then fully segregating the lines. I’ve said that for some new routes, where there are concerns, we should be prepared to use temporary planters, monitor traffic flow and then, if they do a great job as I expect them to, replace them with full segregated lanes. There were lots of concerns about traffic flow on Vauxhall bridge and of course that has now been very successful. But as with all policies in all areas, if the schemes don’t work, and local resident concerns about congestion are borne out, we should be prepared to look again.

  10. I think we've positively identified one of the Evening News BTL commenters.

I was just saying on Twitter last night that the more of Cllr Rossi's pronouncements on cycling I see, the more I'm convinced he's Apollo21Pilot from the EEN comments.

They're both like indecisive Dave from the Fast Show, in that they'll suddenly take the same position as whoever's talking to them most loudly at the time...

@SRD, indeed he heads the list for Lib Dem in Lothian so even if he doesn't get in as Edinburgh Western MSP there is a good chance he will be an MSP soon.

A group of barristers and residents at the Inns of Court are to fight a Cycle Superhighway that they say will "create a strangle hold" on the Temple area of London.

Launching a planning dispute against the City of London Corporation, the powerful group say that bringing the Superhighway into the Blackfriars area via Tudor Street, New Bridge Street and Temple Avenue will cause havoc for businesses and residents - and perhaps more importantly, block some of the lucrative deals for filming by big productions like Harry Potter in the historic surrounds.

I'm not sure if this is news but I saw on Strava that Willie Rennie supports a segregated East West cycle route. He seemed to do a fair bit of cycling between Fife and POP too.

Pete posted on the comments again, just for the record.

"But I wonder if any of these cyclists will sign my two petitions?
The first, is against the West Coates Cycle Track at http://www.change.org/p/city-of-edinburgh-council-petition-against-the-west-coates-cycle-track-in-favour-of-national-cycle-route-1-re-opened

The second is in favour of congestion charging for Edinburgh at http://www.kidsnotsuits.com/congestion-charging-in-edinburgh-glasgow-parliamentary-petition

Am I a split personality? I keep asking myselves the same question"

    What rot.

In related news, he's made a big Facebook post about his other big campaign (NHS whistleblowing, a laudable cause). He seems proud that he parked his car on double yellow lines outside the maternity unit at the Forth Valley hospital.

Back on topic, West Coates was down to one lane both ways this evening for roadworks. Traffic chaos was notably absent.

There was a moderately big queue eastbound mid afternoon when there was a large van loading outside Vigos. (Presumably legally, I wasn't near enough to check). The single lane isn't a problem though if the lights had a better sequence - if there was an all way pedestrian crossing then there wouldn't be a straight on only phase, (where nothing moves because it's blocked by turning traffic), and could be much more effectively dealt with.

West Coates still down to one lane each way this morning, and traffic was still flowing freely.

With perfect timing, a fire engine was heading for Roseburn with siren/blue lights on as I passed. It wasn't held up.

@s4cedinburgh I am not anti cycle track at Roseburn. I dislike poor consultation and bad design which conflicts with all other users

Today's the Day that PG goes to see Sustrans...

May still be time to give them some love for part funding the scheme via my tweet

The next Murrayfield Community Council on May 31st is the big one. Council Officers will be playing back the consultation findings to MCC. Would be very good if interested parties attended to make sure the views of the whole community is heard.

And immediately before the MCC meeting at 7.30pm is their AGM at 7pm, if anyone wants to go for a place on the committee to get some balance...

Oh it was last week? I thought it was tonight. Had to have a look at Peters site to find that one (don't ask why) it looks like he took it down. Huh.

All the cycle tracks in Edinburgh will be 50% funded by Government money through their QUANGO Sustrans, based at Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh. They have NCR1 at their back door and want to have the new Roseburn to Haymarket one at their front door. I think they're a tad greedy for wanting one at either side of their property, but they take exception to that idea

Starts out with a fairly nasty 'tone' of voice. And I like that QUANGO is capitalized. Because everyone knows this is A BAD THING...

He knows how much a pedestrian crossing costs, which makes him an expert on street design apparently.

Do you think their design will pay any attention to best practice for cycle paths? The one the council proposed doesn't so why would theirs?

And thus the Council would forge ahead and we would be left looking like a gang of NIMBYs with nothing to offer but criticism

Yep, you got that bit right

    "Ruth Ferguson is the Leader?

There's a bloke on the Murrayfield CC who rubbishes the Council scheme as "poorly designed". What will he make of this back of the envelope attempt at another design?
