I'd like Jim Eadie to stand, and I'm a Unionist.

With only a year to go on the Councillors' term, an existing Councillor suggested that there wouldn't be a by-election (in my ward, had one of my councillors won a parliamentary seat).
There's no rule that an MSP can't also be a Councillor, and if the new MSP comes from a ward that has a majority of a different political shade, they won't want to give up their party's seat to an opponent.
I suppose if they're confident that their party's candidate would win the by-election, then it might yet happen, but why take the risk?

Just saw this bit of travel news:
"ROSEBURN / HAYMARKET area affected by a power fault. Traffic lights *out* between Roseburn Gardens and Haymarket Yards. #edintravel"
CHAOS??
Posted 8 years ago # -
I lived through that power cut. No internet. CHAOS
Posted 8 years ago # -
@Rosie: if your tinned goods and candles had run out at least you could have walked to the shops.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@Roibeard - thanks. Maybe he'll stand next year.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@ Stickman - I could have taken my bicycle to Roseburn Cafe and offered to power a generator.

Now the election's out of the way, perhaps some of the "vagues" who took up that position in an effort not to alienate the "antis" will be able to be a bit bolder in their support of the segregation? (Especially once they see the effect of the opening of the facilities in London).

At least Hannah Bettwhatsit who had the anti cycling route piece on her leaflet didn't get in. Didn't think she would, though.
It occurs to me that 4 women were running for Edinburgh Central - Davidson, Boyack, Johnston and Bettwhatsit.

Yikes - 5 women - forgot Alison Dickie!

"ROSEBURN / HAYMARKET area affected by a power fault. Traffic lights *out* between Roseburn Gardens and Haymarket Yards."
Probably some drivist tampering with the signal wires to 'improve' 'traffic flow'.

CHAOS!!!

HAYMARKET TERR citybound is closed due to power repairs. Expected to continue over the weekend. Diversions as signed. #edintravelPosted 8 years ago # -
Anyone looking to buy a cafe in Roseburn? Several plus a cake shop are about to go out of business not to mention half the shops in Haymarket which will be laying off their staff on Monday morning.

Another update from the rebels:
point out to Ruth that we are coming up with our own, cost-effective, scheme that will help cyclists get to Haymarket and will put nobody out of business and may help reduce congestion through sensible traffic management. Ask her if she will study our scheme when it comes out in late May. Point out to her that our scheme, unlike the Council’s will have been consulted upon properly and will have the support of the local residents and businesses (you have my word on that!).
We continue to meet Tuesday’s at 5.15, please come along if you are interested. Our plans are shaping up nicely and will be available for you to peruse at the end of next week.
Can't wait until next week!

He's asking them to tell RD that "her first task as our newly-elected representative is to get on the phone to Sustrans and tell them they need to watch their step"
Posted 8 years ago # -
Doubtless Sustrans will be quaking at the thought of the dreaded phone call. I'm sure the Labour leader of Edinburgh council, and the SNP deputy leader, will be delighted to hear of Ruth's intervention (if it ever happens) and will jump whenever she snaps her fingers.
PG, if you are reading this, I truly cannot believe the depths to which you have sunk in this crusade. To think, you used to be such a nice chap once upon a time...

"Consulted upon properly"
So- has anyone been to one of these open consultations, seen the plans, answered a questionnaire, seen posters advertising it?
Posted 8 years ago # -
@Stickman, that's not proper consultation according to KNS. This is a local consultation, for local people only. Nosy cycling forumites are expressly not invited, thank you very much.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@crowriver: the People's Republic Of Roseburn speaks with one voice.
Posted 8 years ago # -
I'm a local, Roseburn-shopping resident. Can I be consulted on these plans please Mr PG?

A key goal of the Edinburgh Living Lab is to encourage innovation in services, processes and products in the city, to make life better for citizens and businesses . What makes the Living Lab different is not so much its aims, as its methods. Developing new solutions should always involve users and citizens from the start, and as far as possible should take place in real world contexts: on the street, in parks, cafes, schools, community centres, homes and offices, rather than in contrived laboratory settings. As well as designing in collaboration with users, the Living Lab methodology places emphasis on rapidly implementing project ideas, testing and measuring their effectiveness, refining them or throwing them away as required.

I was shunned for this consultation as well. Snubbed, hurt.

Imagine you had just been elected the leader of the "opposition". You are in the middle of appointing a shadow cabinet, which has to balance all the wings of your party. Several colleagues want to be Presiding Officer. The EU referendum is tearing your party apart.
How much time do you think you would spend considering "alternative" plans for a cycle lane - when that is a matter for the council.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Well it will be fun to see if Frank Ross or any other SNP councilors sign a petition directed at Ruth Davidson.

Do any of our helmet-cam'ers have a video of the back route from Haymarket to Roseburn Park I can use?
Or can someone volunteer to make one for us please.
I think Hart's did one going into town a while back but given people's limited attention span, I think showing the tram tracks first would be best.
Many thanks

I could do one on Monday if that's not too late? Do you want it following the suggested route of round the back of the offices, zig-zag, Russell Road, Roseburn Park, then out onto the big main road?
Posted 8 years ago # -
That would be perfect. Thanks.
Can you continue from Russell Road round the back of the shops (Roseburn Place) and onto Roseburn Crescent and into the park.
