Two or three-way car collision including a Prius Taxi, a Range Rover and something small at the junction by Tesco this morning. (As reported by my husband so sorry no eye witness info). All drivers looked tolerably civilised about it but anyway...

Sorry for the late reply but I look to arrive if I can.

Another great blog on the need for Option A to give a safe route to Roseburn Primary.

I have shared with Frank...

I did eventually drop my councillors a short email - hopefully another supportive comment to be counted even if I doubt my powers of rhetoric are likely to have changed anyone's mind...

I have finally got around to it. Thanks for all the niggling guys!

Dear Frank Ross, Paul Edie and Jeremy Balfour,I support the cycle route Option A.
I know that there is a lot of noise about supporting local businesses etc, however I believe that the amended plans mean that there is plenty of loading space, if used correctly (too often drivers interpret "loading" to mean "popping into that cafe for a bacon roll"). Option A gives Roseburn a chance to get better, making it a more pleasant environment for pedestrians as well as cyclists.
I am usually a pedestrian these days, pushing a buggy with a toddler. I like to go down to Roseburn to get a sandwich from Vigo's Deli, or visit the dentist. I'd like to be able to cross over and visit the shops on the other side too, getting to Tesco without having to double back. At some point in the future I'd like to start cycling again (as I did a lot of before I had my son) but with the current situation or even with Option B I can't see it being realistically possible to get safely through Roseburn with him on a bike. As I live north of Roseburn Option B would the wrong side of the main road and no use. (I'm never going to even attempt the NCN route... Hairpin bends on the ramp, shared road, tram tracks, yuk). Once our young man starts school I'd hope that there's a safe route for him to cycle to Primary without fear of rat runners or the like on the backstreets.
Edinburgh's population is only going to increase, and planning for the future by encouraging sustainable transport and street design that engages local users rather than encouraging drive-through shopping is surely in all of our best interests.
Yours sincerely,

Great letter LivD. Really adds the personal touch.

So, Adam McVey cycles on the 'Option A Support Ride', yet when asked if he supports Option A comes out with some weasel words about finding a solution that will please everybody - code for the fudgetastic Option B. Pathetic, infuriating stuff.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Let's see after tomorrow's vote.
Posted 8 years ago # -
Adam McVey did at least see the irony of the traffic all backed-up and blocked due to the lorry stopping....
Posted 8 years ago # -
What do you think he means, HankChief? Has anyone had any inclination of how the LibDems might be voting?
Posted 8 years ago # -
Was Nick Cook there?
Posted 8 years ago # -
@Harts Cyclery - I asked him explicitly if he meant option B and he didn't say yes, but he didn't say no. He was being very enigmatic....

"fudgetastic Option B"
Would "Cyclists Dismount" signs be better than Option B? With even moderate use, you're going to be waiting a while at those 3 crossings. Would it be faster to get off and walk?
Posted 8 years ago # -
All the SNP body language says B. I'd put a reasonable wager on that. Thing is, I think they're making a poitical mistake with that choice. Time will tell.

Was Nick Cook there?
No, although I understand that he supports the principle of a cross city cycle route (in line with the Conservative manifesto). I'm not entirely sure what "support in principle" means based on the approach they're taking in practice.

Has anyone know where I can find the Council's map showing how the the East-West route links up existing options.
I need it for the media but struggling through all the paperwork...
Thanks

We can safely ignore the SNP if 1 or 2 LibDems support A. I'll need to email the LibDems directly, rather than my generic one that I sent last night.

@HankChief
The original transport committee report from last year had a map showing the links across the city. Trying to find it just now...
EDIT: page 18 of this:

EDIT - dang, Stickman's on fire this morning!

@Harts Cyclery There's only 1 LibDem on the Transport Comittee. robert.aldridge@edinburgh.co.uk is your man.

Thanks.

Ach, only 1. And no-one knows what he thinks, I imagine...
Posted 8 years ago # -
@Harts ...don't hold your breath, but I could be wrong.
Posted 8 years ago # -
@Harts - see upthread, he's been targeted already precisely for this reason, and as far as I know nobody has had a response from him.

Sustrans blog:
https://sustranscommunitylinks.wordpress.com/2016/08/28/its-time-for-some-big-decisions/
We believe that this proposal (Option A) is the way forward for the city – one that we have been delighted to support through the Community Links Programme so far.
Wonder who this is about?
The danger in all debates is that loud, sometimes irrational voices tend to drown out genuine, legitimate concerns that need addressed.

@Roibeard
Thanks, that's what he told me himself too. Will be emailing him again later, and just wondered if he'd attended.

Don't know if this is par for the course, but I am a bit disappointed with the (lack of) response from Councillors. I sent personal individual and different emails to 19 councillors, my own 4 plus those on transport committee. I received one personal reply from Karen Doran (Lab on TCommittee), one from Cammy Day (Lab in my ward) and two standard SNP responses from Adam McVey and Gain Barrie.

Got a genero-response from Adam McVey. I reckon it's probably his Out of Office setting at the moment...
Posted 8 years ago # -
I had a nice response from Cllr Balfour to my email via Writetothem. It was very swift, so perhaps it's a cut and paste, but it felt personal.

Thank you for your email and the information it contains.I know my colleagues have been in considerable discussion about this for some time now. There have been a number of developments - not least of which is failing to get some of the funding which was included in the plans.
And I appreciate there are also differing public views in this debate and some complex logistical issues. I have not hitherto taken a position on the two options but will discuss with my colleagues over the next few days - in particular Cllr Nick Cook who is the Conservative Transport . I will ensure that they see and are aware of the points you have made to me.
Your representation is welcome.

Written to Them. Useful that two of mine (Booth and McVey) are on the committee and went on the ride. "Please think of the future in your deliberations tomorrow."
