It's the pressure drive mini abs I have, not road drive.

Just Googled this and the abs button is supposed to prevent this happening- just have to remember to press it before unscrewing the pump. Just like I need to remember to use the quick release on the braked before I try to remove the wheel (one of my many mental blocks)...

The Road Drive will do 100psi on a 700x23 tyre. Given it's entirely constructed out of aluminium and metal, you can fair feel the thing heat up with the effort of compression.

The Topeak Road Morph pump is really good. I've had a couple for many years and they've not let me (or my tyres) down. It's rated as able to do 160 psi and has a wee pressure gauge (has to be better than the finger test). I use it for short rides and long distance audaxes. It's so easy to use you could almost dump your track pump.

I'm not sure that it's quite a mini-pump (though Wiggle does classify it as such) but it's very transportable. It would stick quite a way out of a jersey pocket but I keep mine either on the frame or in the saddle bag - saves forgetting it.

I just checked and it is in fact the pressure drive not the road drive I have too. In the worst case scenario I have considered leaving the pumps flexible tube lashed to a spoke after loosing the valve core but on giving it one last try it stuck.

Next time I will know to release the pressure first.

Finally got round to testing the micro pressure drive. I'd read somewhere that the end of the chain breaker on the Lezyne sv10 multitool doubled as a valve core wrench to tighten valve cores. I tried this and it was possible to tighten the valve core further. I completely deflated the tyres- it took 300 strokes to get the 25c tyres to 80 psi, mostly pretty easy and quick but the last 100 were getting tough. Probably could have done more- not sure how many would have been needed to get to 100'ish? I guess it was >80 since that was what my main pump read once I had disconnected the minipump and attached the other pump. Pressed the abs button and unscrewed the hose from the pump before unscrewing the hose from the valve. There was a tiny hiss when i pressed the abs button. Valve core stayed put with no hint of movement.

I am done with mini pumps. Inflating a 2.5" mtb tyre ten times to get me home last week was unbelievably frustrating. From now on if I've got a pannier on the mtb, I'm carrying a long pump.

Yeah....actually, thinking about it, 80 psi isn't even the minimum recommended pressure...
