Various reports that the bridge is reduced to one lane tomorrow morning, and everyone asked to avoid if possible.

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.

My work went as far as to send a text alert about this yesterday evening.
Has anyone attempted to cross by bike today? I've been trying to find out if it's open to bikes/peds while the southbound carriageway is closed, but I've drawn a blank so far. The FRB aren't responding to my tweet.
My two nearest Fifers say "got the train this morning" and "was closed this morning to bikes".
i phoned bridge control and they pretended it was still gusting.
i'm on a hill higher than FRB right behind it, and there's not a drop of wind.
amey are jokers.
Presume northbound bikelane open??
i asked them to just come clean if they were keeping it closed so their contractors can have sole vehicle access to inspect their girder defect
but i was told no, it'll be open again soon.
that was 40 mins ago
Presume northbound bikelane open
you mean the west side ped lane, no that's only open at weekends. for the new bridge gawkers
Quite a few of my colleagues reporting on facebook that they had got stuck in interminable tailbacks despite "leaving an hour early".
It would seem if there's half the amount of bridge open, and everyone in Fife leaves for work an hour early. Well, you do the math (they clearly didn't).
"The footpath and cycle tracks are closed, with patrol vans transporting cyclists who need to cross."
according to Alastair Dalton
I arrived at the bridge 11am and did the limbo.
Henceforth they have stationed a cop car at north end lorry lay-by to prevent anyone else doing it.
Essentially, they want to keep both bike lanes solely for contractors vehicles.
Flat bed lorry shuttle is now in operation.
All this extreme caution does my head in. For anybody who cycles over the bridge, it's probably one of the safest parts of their journey, even when there are high winds. Now, just because there are a few contractors milling around, we're going to have to wait for the shuttle. Come on! I'm about to cycle into Edinburgh, where there are thousands of pedestrians, workies, lorries, taxis and all sorts. I think I can just about manage to avoid a couple of vans and a few blokes standing around scratching their heads.
Rant over.
"Flat bed lorry shuttle is now in operation."
Which is obviously 'good' - if not entirely convenient - but the decision making and information transferring seem remarkable poor.
I thought FB was usually quite good at this sort of thing(?)
Yep I stuck the bike on the train this morning (got a free ride though which was nice)
I remember their (FRB) rubbish information over the unexploded thingy not so long ago.
I remember cursing as I headed to the bridge and passed a cyclist coming the other way (only about 100 yards from the bridge) who said to me in passing that it was to be closed for the next 45 mins. I kept going and stopped at the barrier with about 10 other cyclists and phoned the wife; less than 5 mins later the barrier was up and we were on way. how can they get their information so wrong!!
I thought FB was usually quite good at this sort of thing
its not FETA any more, its AMEY - private contractor based in Manchester operating the bridge "on behalf of Transport Scotland"
double plus ungood
Ah yes, I just assumed that systems which worked would continue...
bike lane has reopened at 15:20
i chatted with an amey rep
serious business, a main down cable has snapped at north tower (allegedly... frb twitter photo of defect looks different)
single lane contraflow will remain in place til its repaired, which could take aaaaages
there's talk of banning heavy goods vehicles also
however, bike lane is to remain open from now
That picture makes me feel dizzy.
I came across this morning, it was rather pleasant.
Cycled down from Rosyth past was looked like about 45 minutes worth of traffic, got onto the bridge and because traffic was all on the west carriageway, it felt deserted and just a murmmer in the background.
It was very peaceful this morning, helped by the total lack of wind. Cycled past a very long queue of traffic on the approach, backed up all the way through Inverkeithing. I think tomorrow will be a train day, though, looking at the wind forecast.
@tractor - I too found it nice and peaceful; quite strange actually.
I also was amazed at how many single occupancy cars I passed. It beggers belief (to me anyway) that so many people would still resort to travelling on their own by car given all the advice. Now I know that not EVERYONE could go by train/bus/bike or carshare for part of the way to reduce congestion but I was surprised at seeing about 10 in a row of singly occupied cars.
A pal who lives in Edinburgh & works in Dunfermline was sitting in a car for 2 1/2 hours yesterday. Lamented the lack of turn offs on the A90 - once you're past Kirkliston junction you're stuck. But was bothered about getting a train as thought everyone else would get one. (Will probably work from home).
Meanwhile guy who lives in Fife but works in Edinburgh says it's a plot by Fifers to keep incomers out...
I rode in this morning and decided to the take the direct route into town along Queensferry Road as traffic was so light as a result of the hold ups(rather than NCN1).
I did see someone genuinely tweeting FRB account about how long it would take them to drive from Admiralty to Echline! Seriously, you could walk that quicker than driving today. Amazes me that people are absolutely chained to their cars despite any given adverse situation. It's like they just can't see any other option.
To further back that up I have two colleagues who were travelling from city centre to Dalgety Bay to see a customer. They decided to give themselves two hours to drive despite me explaining that the train would get them there in 20 minutes and the customers office was 5 mins away at Hillend Ind Estate. Bonkers!
Good to see that bikes are getting through despite the situation.
I don't think people drive always because of quickness. More a 'comfort blanket' type of thing.
Basically it's like clothing for many and an extension of their home. It's also an item that is paid for whether you use or not. Car users using a train for the first time would be amazed at the cost and the lack of seating in the rush hour.
i wonder whether arriving on foot is seen as 'too alternative' and not showing solidarity with fellow motorists!
Of course too much motoring solidarity leads to congestion!
"New weight restriction on bridge - with immediate effect all vehicles over 7.5 tonnes must use an alternative route"
https://twitter.com/forthroadbridge/status/672417224267833349
"Please be assured the @forthroadbridge weight restriction doesn't apply to buses. Services operating as normal but still subject to delays"
Anyone know what the trains are like?
I have an excited boy & friends hoping to go to beaver camp in Fordell Firs tomorrow night starting at tea time.
Thinking of train to Inverkeithing and then Taxi up the hill.
Hmmm.. think every man and his dog will be on the train...
Bridge is completely shut from midnight.
