The torpedo is only geared 53:12 at the top end with a 26" tyre, which means I spin out at 38mph, and thus I was freewheeling well before I hit 55.

I'm 50:11 on the CHR so not any better. I enjoyed @LaidBack's demo Metabike Daemon on the granites with a 53:11.

I have been thinking about getting a Sram XD Driver for my DT Swiss rear hub and putting a 10-42 on the CHR just for those occasional moments where you get a nice tailwind down something like Paddy Slacks or the granites.

Rumbled down to the Honest Toun with madame to smell the sea yesterday and do a shake-down on the rebuilt 9-speed SUNLIT Uplander.

Over Craigmillar Hill out Niddrie Mains, Hay Avenue, Innocent. Stood on the breakwater at Fisherrow and the tide was miles out. Three dogs trying to chase gannets half way to Fife, demented with joy.

Went as far as the BMX track at the racecourse and joined the kids (physically distantly) on my 29" bikepacking rig. One tiny guy was still on stabilisers and totally mad to get air. Great to see girls on MTBs just mucking about.

Back through Greendykes and hailed Kirsty Lewin of Spokes Porty on her bright red leccy bike for a distanced chat. She told us of a magic portal into Duddingston golf course which I shall investigate.

The shakedown revealed that I had been overly cautious on the limit screw on the rear mech and the winch gear was not fully accessible. No big deal. Great to have a silent bike again, no clonks, grrrrs or pyings to be heard.

First 50km ride today, first time round the Dalmeny estate and first time over the Forth Road Bridge. Solid ride.

The only thing that could have spoilt it was the grey squirrel trying to commit suicide by cyclist at Cramond Brig.

Tried new tarmac on pointless road at Harburn. Goes up to farm then wind farm then back down to dog trust road. Tarmac ends at farm but just came back down

@CycleAlex - Nice ride that. You'll be cycling overnight to Aberdeen before you know it.

quick pedal to Eilean Chathair Amain and an unrequited spotted in Porty. Out hard & slow, back easy and rapid.

too many off-lead dogs on cramond prom and innocent.

Queue at Greek bakers too long, so settled for mystery meat sausage roll from Baynes. definitely a mistake #neversettle

@CycleAlex Nice one! You're at the top of a very slippery slope. The first ride I reported to CCE as an 'achievement' was of a similar length around Penicuik and the Pentlands. A few years later I reported this and this.

Like I said in the first of those two write-ups, and channelling @bill "CCE is a truly magical place where we are encouraged to try new things and where, bit by bit, things that we once thought were impossible become quite ordinary."

    You have been warned :-)

Wended my way to Porty to see the sea. On the way back I passed a pack of teens at Cairntow.

One of the lassies looked at me and said 'nice bike' and I think she actually meant it? Quite taken aback.

Section 5(8)b with madame over Craigmillar Hill, into Little France park, round Danderhall (first for me) and round Drum Estate (also a first).

Drum estate's lovely. I can see why Pippa Middleton shoots there.

No, first neb so ca'canny. Round the outside, past the big hoose, right and round under the railway path to the shed emporium on Dalkeith Road.

I spotted a few spurs but they went unmolested.

"under the railway path to the shed emporium on Dalkeith Road." is off the beaten path!

Been taking the dogs that way at least monthly for years. Only ever twice seen another human - and once was on the morning of commons riding (which sets off from the shed emporium).

Such a lovely morning that I was unable to resist going cycling, first time in a month that I've gone further than the supermarket.

Roads getting noticeably busier, but still nowhere near "normality", and it's possible there were as many cyclists out as drivers, even on the likes of Frogston Road.

Just went for a gentle mountain bike around Holyrood Park which was a bit busier than I would have liked, but I should have gone out earlier so it was entirely my fault. Lovely if still windy.

Penicuik, West Linton, Broughton, Peebles, Innerleithen, Musselburgh.

Was glorious once though Penicuik and on to the moor road.

The Broughton to Dawyck road was ace, to the top of the list. As was the Stobo Rd. Wind assisted Innerleithen to top of Granites much needed. 138km, bit weary now.

We had actually set out to do the loop via Talla, think wise decision to reroute at Broughton.

I spent the morning oiling my chopping boards instead of making the most of the sunshine, but went out (sometime) after lunch and did 13 offroady miles around Polton and Lasswade.

    Jolly boating weather

I needed to go into town to find an RBS cash point so turned the trip into daily exercise for the family. 5yo son on our tagalong thought it was great to be able to cycle into town from Roseburn but was a bit sad that he couldn't go on his own bike but we reassured him that in a few years' time there will be a lovely segregated cycle path all the way...

May have said hello, was also there yesterday.
Never been on the moor road before(not even on the car) and its almost designed for cycling. Very enjoyable.

Rumbled down to Musselburgh with Madame IWRATS yesterday. Much glorious cycling from all ages and shapes on machines new and old. Paths saturated at points.

A few car drivers sitting indignantly in front of the closed Fisherrow car park.

I went out the Moor Road on Friday. There was a <rule 2> of a headwind. It took me ages to get to West Linton.
I agree that it is usually a very pleasant route!

I gave a friend the Moor Road directions As she was looking for new routes. I made it a nearer home circular by cutting down Macbiehill back to the A701 (signposted La Mancha 2/3rds of the way along).

Post lockdown or if applying the Dum Comm Effect, now, from Whitmuir you can head east a little then turn right up Shiplaw the easy way (past the observatory) and down to the 3 D map of Scotland from their you can take the glorious road over The Meldons and arrive at the Stobo Road blast along there and turn at Drumelzier then Broughton then Biggar Rugby Club valley then from Biggar home via the Clyde valley, Carnwath, Balerno. That is a grand day out.

At Whitmuir if you go right you can take the back road At Romano Bridge which is a beautiful valley that cuts the corner on the main Peebles road if you would rather make it shorter. From main Peebles road go Stobo Road et cetera or even shorter back track past Castle Crags drying out place and cut the wee corner over towards Netherhurd. You can see I am itching to get some longer routes in

Which car-park is closed? I was through there with t'kids on Sunday and it was heaving, both the car park at the harbour and also people driving right round and back along the promenade road to park on the apron on the other side of the barriers.
