I was pleased to discover that the cafe in Gifford will be re-opening again in early May. The new manager said it will be cyclist friendly (it will be called The Lanterne Rouge) and he plans to have a selection of tools for customers to borrow, as well as inner tubes for sale.

They hosted a pop up cafe in the premises to support the ERC road races in Gifford yesterday.

    Cheers
    Colin

Humbie Hub posted this a few days ago on FaceBook:

Humbie Hub warmly welcomes cyclists and we have provided a Cyclist’s First Aid Kit just for you. Large groups are always welcome but please let us know in advance. A few days notice will be appreciated. Thank you for your support.

Define "large". We've been there with groups of 7 or 8 and they were able to accommodate us very easily and smoothly. Presumably there have been occasions when an entire club has rocked up, which must be somewhat more challenging, especially if they've got a few tables occupied already?

I guess it's so they can stock up on carrot cake and rolls :)
I've been in when a group of about eight cyclists arrived and there was no problem. Maybe twenty turned up one day, who knows?

I had a very nice lunch there yesterday, great service and food and a very enjoyable stop- they're a bit worried about losing business to the new Gifford cafe.

Stopes in at the Boardwalk Beach Club this afternoon.

Impressive array of cakes & coffee/tea variants. Got the impression they are still finding their feet and need to work out how to optimise their work flows as it took a while to be served despite plenty of staff.

Nice to see one back up & running there. It was certainly busy enough today that I'm optimistic that they can make it work financially.

It is in desperate need of some proper bike parking though. I've sent an email to the cycling team to get it added to the list.

Laid Back and I had lunch at the cafe last weekend, and the owner is already looking into cycle parking. He was asking us for advice.

The whole waterfront from Cramond to Silverknowes needs more bike parking.

@stickman there is a recent thread on here asking you to tell the council what you just said and they will put them in. Maybe called more bike parking? For some reason I am unable to figure this is not happening on here. I know the bike chap at the council. He has asked us to say where we want the racks and he will put them in. The link is on the thread. The offer is open and current. Go on, go on go on go on...... As Mrs Doyle said, tho that was about cups of tea not bike racks.

Hankchief - thanks for contacting team about Boardwalk cafe. I'll let him know.

Saw boards up on Woods Deli. Business for sale?

With woods, I heard a rumour from my youngest though how she would know I am not sure. It was also closed one day last week so maybe. Pity, always busy. The cafe business requires you to have no life outside the business, work very long hours, deal with the public. Not easy.

Sorry, I don't stiltskin. They are a bit vague about it on their FaceBook page. Possibly worth stopping anyway as they were giving out freebies at the weekend.

I had lunch at Milk (at the Sculpture Workshop beside the NEPN at Hawthornvale) yesterday. I don't go down that way very much so didn't know it was there until yesterday, but it's highly recommended. They've got a few bike racks that you can see from inside and a few more on the upper level.

Quite a few of the customers were on bikes when we were in. Perhaps we should tell the Roseburn businesses to pay it a visit.

5 months later nothing has happened. I've also asked and owner has phoned many times.

@amir - Tried the café at Cockenzie House on Sunday & the food was very good. Huge cappuccinos as well.

Visited the Boardwalk cafe today for the first time. As we arrived (on foot) a group of about 15 women were arriving by bike (presumably some organised group!) and the proprietor came bustling out apologising for the lack of bike racks. Encouraged them to complain to the council. Apparently some conflict between Saturday runners and potential trip hazards of bike racks?
Anyway, we were at the back of a slow queue in the cafe. Nice cakes, but a disappointing lack of options for lunch. Two flavours of sandwich (cheese or cheesenham), one soup choice, hot dog or bacon butty. Husband (who stayed in the queue to order while I wrangled toddler) thinks they were adequately staffed but inefficient. Too much glaikit staring by staff, coffee machine in the way by the till so there's only room for one customer being taken care of, not enough leadership about who should do what etc.
Come the winter, I'd be hoping for soup options, baked potatoes, a bigger range of sandwiches, efficiency training. And cake. And bike racks.

"thinks they were adequately staffed but inefficient"

That was my view too when I went for first (only - so far) time a couple of months ago.

Had the same thoughts back in May. Had hoped they would have sorted it out.

Maybe someone should have a word...

You just have to pretend it is coogee or bondi beach, all laid back and hours to kill waiting for a skinny latte frapuccino
