I did not have any issue last year with bike on the tram off peak, the year before I did.

I wonder if the driver was going quicker than usual in an empty bus, as not seen a such a roofless bus before. I would have guessed a new bus like that would have some sort of GPS warning for a bridge but may be no such system exists.

EEN now reporting that the strike due to start on Friday is not going to go ahead as planned:

last-gasp talks have reportedly resulted in the industrial action being suspended before drivers were set to go on strike from 3am from Friday.

I was presuming that the bus was empty because it was "repositioning" and therefore not in service and not on a normal route.

3 way reply to this plaited thread

Most bus bridge bashing happens when the bus us either not on the regular route, or a decker is subbed for a regular bus, and driver us on auto-pilot. Fauldhouse us at the extremities of the local routes, (27?) and the old first bus route normally headed back over to Harthill before running in via Whitburn.

Interesting to note the new coaches on the Linlithgow & Bathgate (Green Arrow branding - Annandale Street registered operating address) and also sporting Scottish Citylink 'joint working' branding. Mid-point wheelchair lift, but also hold space. Not sure if West Lothian Buses had retained SMT CoC (Clause 7(d)), or Citylink (Clause 56) can be cited when putting a bike on the coach. Must surely only be a matter of time before West Coast Motors reprise their Argyll joint working with Citylink on some Borders routes. Perhaps Peebles/Biggar-Gyle/Airport & interchanges with AIR/900 services.

Whilst RAIB reports are mainly linked back to ORR for regulatory action, they can also inform HSE, and there may be a case if a clear connection can be proven to driver fatigue or a relayed Section 2 liability. But that's likely to be mighty tenuous.I'll start a thread on the report though, expect some changes to the crossings based on the recommendations, and clear note that no changes were made in the layouts when the busway (30mph?) was converted to a tramway (up to 50mph?) with very different stopping performance, and noise profiles?

The #35 diversion does seem rather poorly thought out. Regent Road is basically inaccessible from the Canongate area, and although the interim taxi service is a help (assuming that residents do know about it), it's not available to visitors.

Maybe it might be worth looking into either:

permanently diverting the #35 via Holyrood Road and the Pleasance (but is the turn and gradient at the junction do-able for buses?)

or: (with a presumed longer term aim to make the Royal Mile more people-focused), rather than a full road closure to motor vehicles, extend the pavements so as to reduce the road width to a single lane with cycle lanes on each side, bar all motor traffic except local access (camera, rising bollard enforced?), with a couple of wider passing places for buses (and traffic light control to ensure that motor vehicles reach the passing places at the right times), and also a few wider loading bay areas for deliveries?

Sturgeon announced a "transformational" £500m cash injection for Scotland's bus network to create priority routes for buses across towns and cities, and a pledge to decarbonise Scotland's railways by 2035

Rail accounted for 1.2% of Scotland's transport carbon emissions in 2016 (see page 12). This will have fallen since the electrification of the lines linking Edinburgh-Glasgow-Dunblane. Not saying further electrification or use of battery powered trains shouldn't happen - but they are a sideshow and give poor returns when compared with investment in active travel.

£500m for bus priority sounds good - but spread it across a number of local authorities and over a number of years and factor in that bus lanes are authorised using the same TRO/RSO processes as segregated cycle lanes and it might not be quite the game changer it looks.

Fears have been raised about the future of the city’s bus services following the announcement of a £314m plan to reshape the city centre.

First Glasgow is to axe an express bus service into Glasgow because of traffic congestion and competition from ScotRail.

Good news. Kirkliston is to get a direct lothian bus service into the city.

All 3 local parties seem to want to claim that their intervention was critical in the success.

I'm keen to see if the politicians will now call on residents to ditch their cars in favour of the bus.

It was quite funny watching everyone rush to take credit for the new service. In reality, none of them had anything to do with it. It’s just one of the few corridors left for Lothian Country to compete with and chip away at First West Lothian.

Can’t wait to see the EEN articles with a sad person holding up a bus ticket when they realise it’s going to be £2.70, not £1.70.

Interesting to know if the EX1 and EX2 express coach services, operated with a dominant Lothian Country branding, but also a Scottish Citylink -'partner' branding are being used with bikes in the hold.

To cut the number of buses needed to run the service, and make it more reliable, the routes terminate at Haymarket and loop round via Morrison Street.

Perhaps Borders (ex-Perrymans) 253 can also carry bikes on the Edinburgh-Berwick route.

Also saw an autonomous bus demonstration at bus show (NEC) last week, with its detection systems being showcased

@Tulyar, it seems the EX1 service is being withdrawn.

Looks like new buses for Borders Buses service 253 (Edinburgh-Haddington-Dunbar-Berwick) will take bikes like the X62 https://www.flickr.com/photos/east_lancs/48936340958/in/faves-39946827@N02/

Seems people still haven’t clocked on to the new-ish bus lane camera on Slateford Road. Much amusement was provided watching people merge in before the camera!
