Due to adverse weather across the network, buses are unable to continue due to safety concerns.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for your patience while our teams work to assess routes.

I think I’m not impressed
Unfortunate ‘snow on top of grit’?
And/or all snarled up ‘because cars’?

Mr Srd went off to the farmers market on foot (spotted a few forumers). commented that the city was 'grinding to a halt'.
question is - when does the thaw come ? Forecast hasn't changed much.

Was the Farmer’s Market open in the end?

Nonna’s was trying to shift food yesterday as Market Cancelled?

There were a few people selling from vans but snow so heavy they weren't selling much - produce covered in heavy layer of snow.

Met Office has been forecasting double figure overnight temperatures since I first checked it this morning.

Obviously tomorrow won’t be “high”
But
“
The climate crisis has increased the average global temperature and is leading to more frequent high-temperature extremes, such as heatwaves. Higher temperatures can cause increased mortality, reduced productivity and damage to infrastructure. The most vulnerable members of the population, such as the elderly and infants, will be most severely affected.

@ejstubbs absolutely. have been watching it. but had previously expected snow would melt during rain. it is proving most resilient, even as temps creep upwards.

“Latest” perhaps ironic…

Hotlinking to this pic from above:
Nice view of the chimneys of the old Inglis Green dye works and the plastics factory. Also see the Village Inn in its original, Gray's Mill-era form.

- Some of First Bus’s double-deckers were halted mid-journey due to the freezing temperatures.
A spokesperson for First Bus said that the company is "aware of challenges" concerning the range of its electric vehicles (EVs) in extremely cold temperatures.
“Temperature is one of many factors that impact the range of all electric vehicles, not just buses. There’s no rule of thumb for the reduced range. It depends on a lot of variable factors such as outside temperature, the number of passengers travelling, and the topography of the route it is travelling on.
"We are working closely with the manufacturer, to ensure we are optimising the battery capacity to its full extent and are being agile in our approach when we are faced with such conditions.”

Lots of very lazy and ignorant reporting going on with this. Reality is that it was only ever ‘autonomous’ on the M8 section, and not that I saw in my use a couple of times a week since October 2023. The ‘autonomous’ mode didn’t work in the rain and couldn’t deal with traffic.

I’ll miss the service. It was extremely handy for Edinburgh park and zipped past the queues on the m8. Generally more reliable than the train and not overcrowded. For me the fastest rush hour mode of travel. It was overpriced.
But no, they marketed it as an autonomous bus when it wasn’t, rather than as a convenient, fast and reliable route.

proposed flat fare bus trial to boost passenger numbers has been shelved because of lack of money and opposition from operators, transport secretary Fiona Hyslop has told MSPs.
The move comes ten months after she described such measures as “taking decisive action to ensure our transport system is fit for purpose”.

thought I’d jump in and offer a bus driver’s perspective on the day to day nuances of our jobs that not everyone might know about or realise!
…
It’s also most likely why sometimes the bus you’re tracking on the app disappears, they’ve probably been turned.

Mrs LB and I went to Glasgow for CC concert last night.
• Left the flat at 16.20 in time to get the restored train service at Haymarket as posted on web
• Train that was shown cancelled and desk suggests 'take a bus'
• Join queue of 100+ people trying to do same - Citylink with full sign goes by!
• Decide to take packed tram to bus station
• Join queue of people in bus station doing the same and trying to get few seats available in CityLink
• Then remember that Flix is now running but not on Google route planner
• Sit down with phone and find that they have a bus leaving St Andrew House at 17.20 - select and pay for seats and make it with 5 mins to spare. Only a short walk but obviously discourages people used to convenient public tranport. Luckily we are used to inconvenience living in Scotland!
• Bus gets slowed up badly in Corstorphine as everyone is driving of course!
• Stop at snowy Harthill to pick up at 18.10 / arrive Glasgow at 18.45
• Walk to get another bus to the 19.30 show at Tramway and arrive at 19.20Enjoy show and manage to get the 23.05 Flix back which we prebooked on bus there. Bus full again with mainly young people. Finally get an N44 Balerno bus at 00.25 and 10 min walk back to flat
That's entertainment!
Most intense bus experience and glad the M8 was open while the railway still closed.

Free public transport trial in Glasgow. Around 18 comments - most of them positive.

Only for 1000 residents.

Mechanism is what is being tested with the thousand e=residents, will be interesting to see who they get out of their motors. As with Edinburgh the volume of traffic from neighbouring local authorities is high. This might work in Balerno - still in City Boundary now and heavy car use tues-thurs. Perversely possibly best to target SUV owners

I tried on the LB website but onceI had read through all the good bits like standard fare now even to airport on 200/400 rebranded 17/18
I could not find what the £1.80 is going up to. £2?
