That's interesting news.
Might encourage TfE to get their contactless card readers at the tram stops working soon.

Today’s news that Bill Devlin and Norman Strachan are set to be handed a total of £270,000 worth of payments for three years will therefore infuriate not just the council but city residents in general.

"The Ballymena firm, Wrightbus, has won a major order in Scotland for more than 300 vehicles.
They will be supplied to Lothian Buses over a four-year period from 2017."

Lothian are tweaking their livery again apparently.
The red and "gold" (Dirty bronze) on the Hybrids is going, and there's a new variant of the madder and white livery that loses the "swooshes" and has a wider white and narrower madder bar at the bottom. The "Lothian Buses" logos are a bit less prominent too.

Bull bars are being fitted to some buses to prevent overhanging trees and branches damaging vehicles and injuring passengers

Ten of the old fleet were split in half and extended – making them the longest Routemasters ever built – with the oldest of these built in 1959.
The move to put them out to pasture comes after Lothian Buses unveiled a new fleet of 30 open-topped double-deckers costing £6.5million which have been specially commissioned to meet environmental standards.

Bus purists will be pleased that these interlopers from London are finally off our streets.

Routemasters were in use in Glasgow and Renfrewshire in the 70s. I wasn't aware of them being particularly London-specific. (It was fun being able to jump on/off the platform, swing on the pole etc, unless the clippie caught you.) I vaguely recall the last Routemasters being sent to London though after they were withdrawn from Scottish fleets.

Also in Edinburgh. I vividly recall catching one from Wester Hailes to Waverley Bridge in 1974. Folk used to smoke on the top deck too.

Closing Date for Online Petition: 20 December 2016
(Uses Lothian Buses as an example of how to do it right: think we might agree?)

Transport convener Lesley Hinds said she was disappointed at Stagecoach’s decision. But she added: “I have a meeting tomorrow with Lothian Buses to see if they are able to step in and provide the service on a commercial basis. If not, the council will have to have further discussions on how people in South Queensferry can have a good, efficient, affordable bus service.”

“As a council, we understand that these are very important routes and services and we appreciate how important it is for the residents of these areas to see the continuation of bus services. Lothian Buses have agreed to come back to the council within the next two to three weeks, once they have collected and analysed passenger loadings relevant to the routes to see if they can develop a commercially viable proposition.”

Time for more bus lanes on the A90?

For once, the comments are quite reasonable. Shocked? Moi?

We are proud to announce to the people of Queensferry that from the 4th June 2017 a brand new bus company called Lothiancountry will be commencing the operation of services from South Queensferry to Edinburgh following the withdrawal of services by Stagecoach.
Lothiancountry will be wholly owned by Lothian Buses but will operate as a standalone business with it’s own buses and products.
Historically two major transport providers First and Stagecoach have been unable to operate commercially viable services within this area with low patronage and increasing levels of traffic congestion contributing to their withdrawal.
The successful continuation of bus services is wholly dependent on customer usage levels – it’s important that the community embrace our new venture to ensure its ongoing success. What’s happening now
We have been working hard behind the scenes over the last few weeks gathering customer and journey time data, and working in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council on the delivery of bus priority measures that ensure our ability to run reliable services which optimise journey times and deliver a positive customer experience. Some of these measures have now been agreed for implementation:
Traffic signal prioritisation at Princes Street/Queensferry Street junction and Queensferry Street/Melville Street
A commitment that the existing citybound bus lane is not compromised on approach to Dean Bridge
Review of parking restrictions on key arterial city routes to allow for passing places for buses
There is, however, an ongoing need to look long term and strategically at traffic flows into the city

All these subsidiary companies running only 2 routes are turning Lothian Buses into a branding omnishambles
(Very good news about the continuing expansion of the network, don't get me wrong)

So some sensible pro-PT effort by bus cos and CEC.
Might benefit cycling too(?)

Stating the obvious.
But is that saying 'watch this space' or '
CEC won't do some of the things we want'?Posted 7 years ago # -
"All these subsidiary companies running only 2 routes are turning Lothian Buses into a branding omnishambles"
Indeed!
Basic problem of course is fares - and the need to charge more for some journeys.
Remarkable value for some long journeys across (and outside) the city on a single fare.
Will LB dare introduce a zone system?
If not maybe two new companies -
Mostly Edinburgh and Rest of Lothian.

So.
Lothian Buses
Lothian Country Buses
East Coast Buses
Lothiancountry(That last sounds a bit too similar to the second one, no?)
However apparently:
"Lothian Country Buses services 104 & 113 will join East Coast Buses from Sunday 23 April."
https://lothianbuses.co.uk/news/article/changes-to-lothian-country-buses-routes-timetables
So.
Is / are Lothian Country Buses no more? Or does it / do they live on as Lothiancountry?
The people demand answers."All these subsidiary companies running only 2 routes"
East Coast buses now running 8 routes / services, plus school buses.

Hah, who listens to the people...

A commitment that the existing citybound bus lane is not compromised on approach to Dean Bridge
Is that codewords for "We don't want any of those nasty segregated cycle lanes put in our way"? (Specifically, the Learmonth Tce, Oxford Tce improvements?)
Review of parking restrictions on key arterial city routes to allow for passing places for buses
Wait a minute, isn't that also going to allow 100s of single-occupant motorcars to pass the bus and hold it up?
Traffic signal prioritisation at Princes Street/Queensferry Street junction and Queensferry Street/Melville Street
So no chance of getting any priority for bikes on the Queensferry Street/Melville Street on the E-W cycle route. Back to "press button". "Wait 6 minutes," then?
Call me cynical. I don't care.
