Is it still used on Tattoo nights to give priority for departing coaches?

I hadn't even realised there was a bus lane there.

@klaxon, no I do not think so, I think it has only ever been used in recent times by Hankchief and the Horns of Anths Cow of Wilmington(he don't post on here no more despite being co-founder)

interesting blog about buses on Princes St

"This snapshot (for one hour on a November Wednesday afternoon) may not be typical, but it indicates that local buses aren’t the whole cause of Princes Street congestion."

"There are also a number of other options to reduce congestion that don’t require any changes to local bus services at all."

Traffic congestion in the Capital threatens the reliability of the city’s bus services, according to the managing director of Lothian Buses.

Richard Hall told the Evening News that increasing congestion is turning customers away from using bus services as the company announced improvements and new routes ahead of the reopening of Leith Street, which has been closed since September 2017.

Department for Transport statistics show that there has been a 5.8 per cent decrease in bus use since the same period last year, with the city’s nose-to-tail traffic thought to be at fault.

EEN has helpfully published this article to reduce uncertainty and confusion regarding LRT's patronage:

    ---

Passenger numbers on Lothian Buses increase by two million

MORE than 121 million passengers travelled on Lothian Buses last year – an increase of two million on the year before.

New figures show the publicly-owned firm bucked country-wide trends illustrating a dip in the number of people taking bus journeys.

A 0.165% increase. Probably lower than the % increase in Edinburgh's population.

1.6% increase I think. Though as explained in another thread, the actual increase is only 1.2 million or 1%.

Partly explained by the acquisition of the former WurstBus East Lothian services I would imagine. Have to say the new East Coast Buses seem very popular with commuters.

1.7 (1.680672268) increase if it actually was 2 million increase to 121. A drop of 2 would from 121 would be 1.652892561 decrease

I don't think the calculator is to blame. :)

Mind The Gap: Britain's Transport Divide. For more than 30 years buses in the UK have run under two systems. In London, a powerful transport authority commissions and pays for bus routes it deems necessary. Outside the capital it is up to the bus companies which routes they run and to local authorities which gaps to fill

Unfortunately last time I tried bbc radio catch up it asked for my tv licence. You now need a tv licence to listen to bbc radio catch up. Not quite sure why as don’t need a tv licence to listen to the radio. I opted out of a tv licence as don’t have a tv

@Ed1, you can't catch up if the programme hasn't been aired yet. No license required for a radio since 1971, however iPlayer may need a license. Maybe listen on FM/DAB in real time? Or tape it? No license required...

@Ed1 You can listen on iPlayer radio without a licence, but you might be asked to create an account to establish you're just listening to the radio.

There is a specifically Radio iPlayer ap, at least for Android.

A man who, beyond the age of 26, finds himself on a bus can count himself as a failure."

The famous quote towards the end of the show, silly but the thinking may relate to some decline in bus use

Local residents in the north of Edinburgh have vented their fury after a number of bus stops were closed on Pilrig Street due to “parked vehicles” in what has been described as a “long-running issue”.

The narrow street located just off Leith Walk is the only vehicular route from Leith Walk to Newhaven, with some residents claiming it has become “so dangerous to cross” and is being used as a “park and ride”.

But Green MSP John Finnie warned commuters would care little for boasts that 100 new buses, out of a fleet of thousands, will “significantly increase” the overall green bus fleet.

“A little bit of green window dressing won’t impress the thousands of Scots who rely on buses every day,” he said. “What they want to see is a more reliable and less expensive service within an industry that is properly regulated.

ENERGY-SAVING hybrid buses have been withdrawn from a busy city route because the Capital’s hills were proving too much for them.

The fleet of 15 electric-diesel double-deckers, introduced on Lothian Buses’ No 10 route from Western Harbour to Bonaly and Torphin seven years ago, were recently withdrawn and replaced by diesel buses to the dismay of some passengers.
