Interesting to see the aesthetic of the classic "illegal ebike look" going mainstream

The bike fashion industry. Unfortunately if said items are not repairable then we have more waste.
My colleague at JBG repairs almost anything - 90% electric now but repairing a manual hub German city bike at moment. Sram 7 speed parts hard to find but he will do it.
In contrast he has a folding e-bike in for repair with a very thick seat post housing a 350Wh battery. Chinese import - he's sourcing parts but all takes time. Connection has overheated so cable replacement required. Very common on these items. Battery connectors tarnish on all brands.
People love all thse styling quirks as we can see in motor trade. But much better if we can share parts with models not changing every year.Posted 3 days ago # -

Welcome to another round-up of happenings in the world of motorised velocipedes, including a new bill from California to help distinguish e-motorbikes, a solid-state-battery full-sus e-cargo bike, a small all-in-one e-bike conversion kit, and more.

If Scotland adopted this proposed Californian legislation then we'd have far fewer illegal e-bikes (!)
Not suggesting we do btw as raising the limit of pedal assist from 15.5mph to 28mph is not a good idea IMHO.Under the new bill, a legal e-bike in California must feature pedals, an electric motor of 750 watts or less, and capped speeds of 20 mph (with a throttle) or 28 mph (with pedal assist). Any device that exceeds these speed and wattage thresholds can’t be marketed or sold as an e-bike, and legitimate e-bikes must feature a label that identifies their class and maximum speed.
European bikes from Bosch are configured to assist to 20mph in USA. We can't install the American Bosch software here. Motor is exactly the same.
Class 1 Designation: Urban Arrow models configured for North America (such as the Family and Family Next Pro) operate as Class 1 e-bikes, meaning the Bosch motor provides pedal assistance only while you pedal and cuts off at 20 mph.
