    Yeah, first part of the Garvald descent was the one I saw. They were on their feet, but looked pretty bashed up, and waiting for an ambulance. There were about five folk stopped already, so I pushed on after checking they didn't need any more help.

    There was another on the way from Dunbar to Haddington - at the turn off from the Pitcox-Stenton road onto the back roads to Luggate. Was sitting in a sheltered spot waiting on an ambulance, with another cyclist and a couple of stopped cars, so I carried on after asking if I could help. He just came off making the turn apparently.

    Steve Abraham kicking off another attempt on the One Year Time Trial this weekend.

    While I admire Kurt Seravogel and Amanda Coker, I wish him luck- would like to see the holder follow the spirit of Tommy Godwin's record.

    "eat all you can meal"

    Now that is part of his plan I could achieve...

    Aye, there's a certain nobility to Steve's approach: pedalling around England come wind, rain, hail or snow...

    First 200 calendar event of 2017 is on this weekend. The Forth & Tay - a classic early season tester.
    Who's up for this?

    I'm giving it a go. Am pretty terrified, will be the longest I've done by some distance, but will give it a decent shot. If I get past St Andrews it would be a record distance and I'll be noting all bail-out points from there.

    Spoke to DaveC earlier in the week. I believe he is intending to go.

    @paddyirish at ths time of year, most of us are in the same boat with regard to fitness (there are a few exceptions that have been doing long distance events through the winter).

    It's mostly in the head and about pacing. Some go like a rocket at the start - but if you feel uncomfortable with the pace, don't be tempted to hang in.

    At the moment the wind forecast is looking good. Usually there's a killer of a headwind from St A to Falkland.

    Oh - and enjoy it! Most of the route is gorgeous!

    @amir

    I've put in a late entry having realised I had the wrong date in my head. Having done essentially the same route several times now (including in January), I'll probably not start if the weather looks poor and/or our Saturday dinner party ends later than expected. But hopefully will be on the start line.

    @paddyirish

    I think you'll be fine, having witnessed your pace on the commute and having seen evidence of your stamina on Strava. If you can cycle 100km by doing laps of Dalgety Bay in the dark, I think this event (when you'll have company and ever-changing views) will be well within your capabilities. As @amir says, it's largely in the mind.

    For those on the F&T tomorrow I note from Facebook that Synergy Cycles in Auchterarder are doing free coffee tomorrow as it is their first Sunday opening of the year.

    Had a perfect day for the F&T - not much wind at all and what there was, was behind us on the return leg from St Andrews.

    Tried to ride within myself for the first half and it seemed to work. I struggled a bit on the long Eastbound leg to Tayport, but a quick stop in Jamesfield Farm was a good call. Felt OK after Tayport and much better once Lomond Hill was out of the way. At least I did until about half an hour after I got home, when my body stopped functioning and standing up was a challenge...

    @SimonS

    Thanks for the tip on Synergy Cycles . A great place who were a bit shocked by the number of visitors... Was hard to drag myself away, rather than order a 2nd coffee and watch Strade Bianche replay.

    A big thanks as well to @cyclops and friends for a well organised event, great muffins at the start and a fantastic spread at the end.

    How are you feeling today?

    Hungry!

    Had a day off the bike and have done a bit of walking - no major issues, touch wood!

    Well done paddyirish. I did try to spot you, even asking someone if they were you (but embarrassingly I already knew them).
    Be warned it's a slippery slope from your first proper audax!

    It was a great day for the F & T. Best in my experience so I made good time, in the company of panyagua et al. Unfortunately towards the end I got both stomach issues and something like exercise induced asthma and was pretty much dead man walking by the time I got home. Wiped out today.

    @amir

    Arrived at the start with ~10 mins to go and looked out for you as well. My main distinguishing feature for was I wore a backpack - I can't seem to find bottle cages that retain their bottles...

    The only person I knew was panyagua and I last saw him as he was leaving Dollar.

    Great going paddyirish. The Forth and Tay is never an easy 200. I always find it tough heading along to Tayport, especially with no tail wind this year. Saw amir plenty of times.

    Slightly excitingly I've finally done what I've been planning for years and filmed an entire Audax in timelapse, with Garmin Virb aided by large external battery. Plenty of dirty camera lens, and the distance count got reset about a quarter in (battery change), but it's all there. It's quite long (22 minutes), I found faster less pleasant to watch, but you can speed up/slow down on youtube to your own taste.

    What model of Virb is that? Did you only have to change the battery once?

    17:42 to 18:00 is a 'must watch'!

    Nice vid, pity about the "Plenty of dirty camera lens": an unintended consequence of riders in front not using mudguards?

    EDIT - Having watched the entirety it now seems just to be a product of Scottish road conditions...

    Sorry I didn't get the chance to introduce you to @amir - didn't see you until we were just about leaving, then as you say we just overlapped in Dollar. Well done on your first 200 - it was a great day for it - hope it will be the first of many for you.

    @amir

    Didn't realise you were suffering towards the end - hope you've recovered now. I needed a couple of days off the bike for muscle recovery after the cramps I was getting and had a very slow commute this morning.

    @DrAfternoon

    Love the video - was looking out for the subliminal McNasty but didn't manage to find the frame.

    @panayagua in the hands of the gp now. Almost hoping its exercise-induced asthma because it's easier to treat than alternatives (though extra weight to carry on rides and may need TUE!)

    @amir - can you fit a jiffy bag in your Carradice?

    Seriously - hope it's something that can be treated and you get back to full strength soon.

    @panyagua, hope that the aches and pains are banished quickly He says, secretly glad to hear that even an experienced audaxer didn't find it a walk in the park :-)

    @amir, hope that the GP gets to the bottom of this quickly and you are 100% soon.

    @Frenchy, it's a Virb Elite. Only battery change was hooking up the external at about three hours in. It stopped recording and saved the clip when I connected it, though no problem to start again, and timelapse makes joining clips trivial. Should have connected it from the start.

    @crowriver, mostly dirty roads, seemed to be especially so, worst time of year after leaves have thoroughly turned into mud everywhere, though not helped by front mudguard being missing its front half.

    @chdot, Audax picnic :)

    @panyagua, McNasty at about 8.39

    Next up is the Scottish Borders Randonnee on Saturday. This is a classy route through the borders from Selkirk with a fair bit of climbing.

    Just crossing fingers on the weather. I might be tempted onto the summer bike but the "winter bike" is more likely weather as it has full guards and lower gears.

    @Amir - look out for Greenroofer & I as we're planning to be in the borders on Saturday en route to Berwick to use up his train tickets.

    Around Tweedsmuir might be where our paths cross.

    Fingers crossed for summer bike weather.
