Huge thanks to everyone who came (and all those who emailed separately who couldn't make it but were interested in getting involved anyway).

I will email around briefly everyone who supplied an address, just to get the communications up and running and Denise will generate some minutes from her notes. Meanwhile, you can get a flavour of the discussion via twitter

(there seems to have been some Euromeeting with the same hashtag but we drowned them out)

I missed this because I was in Leighton Buzzard for the week. While I was there I made contact (in the pub where else?) with the town's cycle campaign group BuzzCycles.

We talked about the different environments and whatnot, but the really interesting bit was when we talked about transport budgets. Despite being only 29 minutes by train from London they were utterly convinced that Scotland 'had all the money'. I let it go.

It's true that public spending per head is higher in Scotland than England, but it certainly isn't higher than in the London conurbation.

"were utterly convinced that Scotland 'had all the money"

Indeed, because that crossrail thingy is free, new terminals and runways cost tuppence.

I am not in London that much these days, but whenever I go I am struck by how much money is being spent on transport infra and if questioned the stock response is that it's "for the good of the whole country"

Where is Leighton buzzard and why?

An admirably direct and germane question. Whilst nearby Luton airport is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown of Bedfordshire, Leighton Buzzard is undoubtedly its ermine hatband. In a pleasingly self-referential twist there are often actual buzzards flying overhead there, though in a disappointing meta-twist these are the wrong birds, named as it is for the de Busard family, a 'busard' being a harrier. I saw no harriers overhead, though there was a hummingbird hawkmoth hovering nearby.

@IWRATS any sign of Leighton Rees, the welsh darts player from the 1970s? Now there was an athlete?

Or Jim Leighton the former scottish goalie?
