I accidentally volunteered to arrange this. Now, having left my diary at work, I'm not 100% sure when I'm free, but nonetheless I can still organise things, so:-

Assuming people prefer a non-school night, Fridays and Saturdays seem most useful. Poll for date at this link

    http://doodle.com/poll/gav9znp7gvvdnew5

Venue debate in the comments please - gembo has suggested Diggers.

ETA: I think I managed to post this under "infrastructure". Which technically pubs could be considered?

Have polled, and in the process discovered how little of the coming month is still free!

    It's difficult being popular!

Friday 16th currently most popular date, closely followed by Saturday 17th.

FYI all who are interested, I think we should vote till Saturday then I'll close the poll and report on the result.

Okay, folks, polling closes this afternoon. At the moment Friday 16th is the pick, with the caveat that while it only has one "no" there are three "maybes", whereas Saturday 17th has one "no" and everyone else is a "yep".

Exciting, your call unhurt, if dead heat, though in my experience maybes are really nos and people voted trump but told pollsters they weren't

Okay, I am Closing The Poll. But as gembo notes just above, we have a dilemma (my fault for allowing "maybe" as an option?) -

    Friday 16th: 5 yes, 4 maybe, 1 no
    Saturday 17th: 8 yes, 2 no

Doodle says the 16th, but Doodle knoweth not how maybe those maybes are. Any opinions?

I think I said no for 17th, but actually, i can probably make it.

Hmm, seven yes, one maybe and one no makes me think the 17th edges it. I have a banana loaf to make now, then I will return and make a proclamation!

Didn't fill in the doodle poll, but I might make it on Sat 17th, but not the 16th

Ok, proclamation time: we shall assemble on Saturday 17th December.

Now we just need to agree at what time and in which pub...

    Possible venues; please add suggestions:

    Diggers
    South Side Social
The Doric (downstairs) or The Hebrides next door if no seats.

Good job, hope banana loaf will make a repeat appearance up the diggers. Will go well with beer and rum. Sadly, I see from the doodle, I can't go shame

Oh, that's a pest! And, I see the people have spoken!

Diggers, Saturday 17th December, at ??7pm?? - or would earlier work better?

Check if hearts are playing at home. If so, earlier will not be so good, stick with 777? Checked Hearts are at home to Partick Thistle. Should all have gone home by 7.30pm?

Have just discovered that Saturday 17th is also Loud & Proud Christmas concert which I have probably got obligations to attend. So earlier is good or later - or you're all going to make a night of it...?

Sorry, I closed poll once the date was set so as not to confuse. Bumping this as a reminder - and so people can weigh in on their likely hours of presence at the pub.

Question: what's the bike parking situation outside Diggers?

Street view is confirming my suspicion that it's a total bike parking desert, with the best option being the tenement railings on Dundee Terrace. Bring a cable to extend your d-lock.

Yup. Dire parking. I should probably walk. I always forget where it is and end up cycling miles out of my way down slateford road, and then having to turn around and retrace my steps.
