Cycled through the tunnel earlier today - around half the lights aren't working and there's lots of broken glass- not sure if it's from the lights or from smashed bottles- either way be careful tomorrow morning if you're going that way.

The Duddingstonswardsmost patch was definitely the light cover - very thin flakey pale glass. That's it swept off now, anyway.

...and that's the other five or six patches done too. Must FixMyStreet and Clarence and CityCentreLeith team, perhaps asking for plastic light housings and grilles over them...

So the glass is gone? I was thinking of going home that way, but I am SICK of getting punctures

    Beware the passive voice.

It sounds to me like wingpig swept up one or more deposits, there will always be more....

i didn't see any glass on the innocent tunnel this evening.

Still a small stretch of 6-10 lights out near the top.

three young lads standing on top of that house/shed type structure which is built into the wall on the right as you go down the path - lobbing rocks at passing cyclists this evening @ 1845ish.

    charming.

    reported to police.

Sadly no way to get through/over than wall from the path as I fancied a spot of confrontation.

Encountered man skateboarding down the tunnel at full pelt and also being pulled by two bounding huskies (a lead in each of his hands). Clearly expert, huskies bounding towards cyclists a bit scary.

Wonder if he's got them trained to pull him and skateboard up hills too!

So we now have 'skateboarding husky man' to balance up 'bikeriding husky woman'? Sounds like a Coors beer ad. Had to happen. Dogs should have lights on them.

CLOSED for the Ironman on Sunday 2nd July from 4am to 5pm, apparently.

Should have read forum more carefully!

I've been told that the road closure plans for the Ironman event were certainly sent round the southside.
Kim (resident in the area) said they were quite impressive although he didn't see any other cycle routes suggested. Not sure what happened if you were cycling into city as a cycle tourist.

If I get the opportunity I will try and comment in the appropriate place(s) that it was, shall we say unfortunate, that an important cycle route was closed with no diversions by an event that involved cycling...

Not sure what happened if you were cycling into city as a cycle tourist.

Were there signs up in advance for commuters or occasional users, who live outside the locale and would need to rethink their route?

Aware that I have customers entering/enjoying all sorts of events that involve 'traffic disruption'.
The ToB for example has loads of closures early on a Sunday. Roads though have to be open by 12 noon or earlier.
Cycling though is not considered much on a Sunday. Cycle lanes parked on even more than during week etc.
Families tend to want to / have to use cars more as public transport restricted on Sundays.

I was taking some pictures of the old lights when some people arrived to install the signs warning of the closure from the 7th of the ninth to the 16th of the tenth of the tenth:

I lack the equipment to do a proper dolly zoom but might pop back with a different camera later in the week.
The Active Travel people say they're "we are replacing the existing lights and doubling them up along the whole tunnel" which will hopefully mean fewer or no dark spots. The covers will also be plastic rather than glass, so hopefully no more punctures for people after oaves smash the coverings.

Was down it a couple of weeks back Aug 17th? Said closed so tried overland route to get to the innocent path. Said it was closed too. Nonsense. After meeting in Craigmillar cycled back up the innocent no problem.

The issue is around land slip from Arthur’s Seat is it?

I think I heard that it was now ‘properly’ closed? Can anyone confirm?

I used it on both legs of my commute on Friday and it was fine. Assume that the low road is still closed though :(

Also went along the innocent today - in an ad hoc peloton, which neatly weaved its way past the many pedestrians. The theoretical risk of being hit by a rock fall being favourable to the proven risk of being hit by a car.

So, we’re in ‘you ignored the signs so getting run over by a boulder isn’t our fault (?)

Presume there are no barriers in place?

Signs up saying works in the usual place from 14 Feb for 6 weeks. I passed this morning - 3 hi viz personnel (either end of tunnel and on rise to tunnel) saying that there is a danger of falling rocks, own choice whether to go ahead. Of course the alternative isn't that attractive.
