1:10? Do they anticipate hordes of toddlers slinging their balance bikes through shop windows?
(I accept that some marches in Glasgow do have more potential for, err, issues...)
I could try to bring BOFFOF along. I can sell him the 100 mile bicycle ride with free coffee, its the POP/marshalling thing that's the problem.

Sounds like we need to have a protest about protests

Hank_Chief:
I don't think this is possible right now. The full volume of the M8 traffic is currently being sent around the little roundabout above 'Bartons Hill' and the leg towards Bargeddie is closed.
edit: Just read you already discussed this back on page one

Yeah. I think we're fine. I did it on the pavement (Eastbound) a few weeks ago and from @WFB nothing has changed so we should be good.
Posted 7 years ago # -
I was there going to school this morning and it's not changed.
Posted 7 years ago # -
@WFB- thanks. Any suggestions to get from there to Glasgow Green?
Posted 7 years ago # -
I'd take the A89 as far as Gallowgate and then left at Abercromby St, pretty much what Google's bike route does.
There is a path alongside the Clyde but it's very meandering and involves crossing London Road to reach it.
There are painted pavement lanes on the A728, near Celtic Park, but I don't use them. Someone else might know more about them. If there is a game on you probably want to avoid that area.

I'm going to the Citz for a Noel Coward play in the afternoon. I just asked the management two things.
Queen (well two guys from Queen and another guy) play Glasgow in December and I'm allowed to go.
And if you think a local guide would help, and I can still get to a 1430 matinee in the Citz, then I'm allowed to ride along from Airdrie to the Green. That's near the theatre anyway.

Thanks for the Route advice - Strava route updated https://www.strava.com/routes/8322944
You'd be a most welcome addition to the group if you were able to guide us in from Airdrie. Happy to give you a text once we were in Caldercruix or Plains so you could plan your interception.

Those of a nervous disposition don't look at the wind prediction for Sunday...
A plan B may need to be established for those allergic to headwinds.
Let me get Saturday's ride sorted and I'll come back to this. Watch this space.
Posted 7 years ago # -
I'd spotted that earlier but for now the worst seems to be in the PM (so might make for a nice ride home)
Still keen unless it's going to be unrideable.
I've checked Strava and my comfort cruising speed in a headwind seems to be 10-11mph so maybe leaving half an hour earlier would be wise so as to not be in a hurry.

**Update**
With a fresh westerly forecast, I'm going to move the start time forward to 8am and change the route to the A89 so that we are closer to restorative coffee shops and train stations for bail out options.
Bring layers both for on the ride and for standing around in Glasgow.
Keep an eye on the weather forecast - I'll update again on Saturday night.

I'll update the POP website

Ahhhhhhh. I thought it was on Saturday. I can't do Sunday, need to watch number 4 son as his mum will be out with number 2.
Sorry!

Could be plenty of time for cake if the headwind doesn't materialise :-)
@wfb - no worries. Thanks for the offer.
Posted 7 years ago # -
If you get there early there is a nice cafe in the People's Palace winter gardens.
Posted 7 years ago # -
I'm going to wimp out of the long ride through but I'll probably see some of you there tomorrow.
Enjoy the ride and the cake.

Really enjoyed Glasgow POP. Great to cycle through streets of Glasgow with Children. Awsum turnout. Brilliant work by Marshalls, police and GCC.

Safely home.
Thanks to the other intrepid riders. It was good to chat.
Thankfully my rubber less tyre held out :-)
Posted 7 years ago # -

I managed to find my flag too, Hank_chief.
