As I suspected. Won't be quite so many toucan crossings to traverse to cycle to points west in Fife. However getting to Inverkeithing and points east will be....interesting.

looking at the map frenchy sourced, i think i can see a way to avoid most of the upcoming diversion.. but it won't be pretty, and probably not feasible southbound.

the green line at the northbound slip does looks promising as a short cut for north-west bound cyclists after the motorway bridge opens.

Used the west side of the FRB this morning. A couple of points to note:

1/ going north to south from inverkeithing. don't assume that you can use the road...I decided to use the roundabout and was then faced with no way of getting to the bridge easily...I had to hop a barrier. it seems to be use their path or don't even bother trying.

As I used the road I didn't experience crossing the traffic heading up the slip to the bridge N-S from their cyclocross path.

2/ you have to cross the off slip from the bridge, which is fine as it is quiet, but there isn't any signage to help you out. Me and another cyclist 'guessed' that the coned off edge of the off slip was a 'path' for us to follow up to the bridge.

apart from the above, not too bad.

A Similar experience to Beano. the only other point is that it was quite a long wait to cross the Southbound slip road before you went under the A90. I would allow an extra 5 mins for each journey.

    @beano

Useful info. I didn't know there was an 'official' cycle route from the cyclocross path so I just stayed on the road past Ferrytoll, then used the roundabout and didn't see any way off it other than the next proper exit, so ended up carrying on to the new road to NQ and cutting through the hotel grounds to get to the west path. Which is quite a long way round. Hopefully it will be slightly more obvious in reverse.

@panyagua - ~I done the same as you but pulled off to the side and thought "surely I don't have to go all the way round there" (maybe the odd expletive added at the time).

I decided to jump off the bike and lift it over the barrier to the 'official' cycle path. Not ideal really.

p1sses me off that they automatically think everyone is using their cyclocross path and not the road. my road tyres DO NOT like those stones (neither does my rump)

They do know that cyclists use the interchange, they've seen a few of us on it often enough.

They're just not interested in accommodating it, because we "shouldn't be on the road", basically.

Coming through northbound I was expecting to be directed down the sloped after the hotel as per the last closure so was surprised to find myself going down the side of the northbound off slip. As others have mentioned the path then abruptly crossed the slip road with no signage before providing no way to access Ferrytoll. I tried splitting the barriers to give us access but ended up ducking under the string to get onto the roundabout and head to Rosyth.

I didn't see the east side of Ferrytoll but this is what it was like last week:

They had finally realised that cyclists are continuing to use the road rather than the cyclocross track and provided an access point to avoid having to use the slip road. Why they haven't moved this under the motorway to the new west side path baffles me.

I think I will be using the path through the hotel and the slightly longer B981 route from now on, avoiding Ferrytoll entirely. This is to access the road to Rosyth though. If I was heading south I would probably consider ducking under the rope on a more regular basis depending on how much traffic is coming behind me on the roundabout. Alternatively rather than crossing two slip roads I would go right round the roundabout and join the shared use pavement on the west side detouring round the sewage works. (It's longer but you keep moving so the time lost counts for something)

Difficult to imagine they could have made an even worse burach than the previous arrangements, but it seems they have!

    Old school SMIDGAF grins, indeed.*

i'm on the scenic sewage works route southbound, then up the disappointing rubble brae.

wouldn't fancy the detour if i was coming in from the divit dip.

northbound, i'm taking the bridge slip lane right onto the interchange.

Care to elaborate on what bit of mess you refer to as the divot dip?

    @ac

the "divit dip" for me is just the road between Ferrytoll and Inverkeithing, ie. Hope Street

ah, that makes sense. I assumed it was a reference to someone (most?) involved in the design of ferry toll.

Does anyone (frenchy) have a contact email for the builders? this morning on the back of the sewage works path I had to contend with a works crew and digger which would have been fine (They marshalled me through with minimum hassle). However there was then a car (I assume one of theirs) parked completely blocking the shared use path. Surely they realise that this path is going to be a lot busier now that they have shut the other one.

You could try enquiries@forthreplacementcrossing.info - if they can't help you they should be able to tell you who can.

I might be going to Fife from Dalmeny station tomorrow, so I would have to cross to the west side of the FRB and then negotiate the slip road to get to Rosyth?

I would say 'get the train', but it would 'better' (for 'us') to find your own way there - by bike - without any help...

You'd think so. "Old school SMIDGAF grins" all round, no doubt...

    yes, but you'll manage it

just think of it as a big adventure

its like disneyland with traffic cones

and don't forget to write up your experience here

    .. after you've recovered

must say that swoop down the northbound slip is good

smooth new tarmac, on the curve underneath the motorway above

suddenly there i was, on a solo breakaway in front of the peleton on the grande tour

    splendid

@bax, agree re Northbound slip. It's also OK for the southbound trip, a smooth surface does help when going uphill.

TBH main issue for me is crossing the Southbound slip, with accelerating/going at speed. Also really don't like the crow's feet barriers.

Will be interesting when we get gale force westerlies. The bridge provides a lot of shelter for when we are on Eastern side...

you don't need to cross over, paddyirish

just stay on the slip and hit the interchange

Article says it will open to traffic on 30 August, then will close for two days for pedestrians on 2/3 September, then reopen on the 4th.

    Bah.

"Can I bring my bike to cross the Queensferry Crossing?
No. Due to space restrictions on the Queensferry Crossing Experience buses we can not accommodate any bikes."

Cos you really need to be bussed miles if you have a bike, don't you? Idiots. The combustion engine-centric thinking of the current cabal in charge knows no bounds.

    I'm absolutely infuriated at this.

From Transport Scotland: "A cycle event was one of the options which was considered, but we wanted to ensure that these events are fully inclusive and a cycle event would not be fully accessible to all.

Due to the nature of the physical measures necessary, such as barrier restraints, a cycling event would also significantly reduce the number of people who could enjoy this amazing opportunity."

When I did Pedal for Scotland last time, they part-closed some of the roads. It was amazing, they were able to separate cyclists and drivers using big red things called "traffic cones". I don't know if Transport Scotland has any of those; they're probably really expensive and require heavy lifting equipment to deploy.

Can't have those pesky cyclists getting ideas about what they might use the bridge for.
