Position on our asks:
Support for investment of 10% of transport budget — Yes — "Absolutely. We"
Support for high quality infrastructure — Yes — " Increasing active travel is vital to bringing down air pollution, improving public health and maintaining capacity on our roads. We need to make sure that the choice to travel actively is supported by green corridors which must be linked up as much as possible. We will invest "
Support for removing local barriers — Yes — "I am hoping to be elected to represent a ward where there is a lot of new development. This means that we need to think very carefully about how we manage local infrastructure but this also opens up opportunities to build in cycling and pedestrian infrastructure from the start. I would be very active in making sure that we are doing this. I know already that Fort Kinnaird have made significant improvements to their bike stand provision, largely down to meetings with a local person who has taken it upon themselves to campaign for this, and are looking to do more. This is the kind of action that we should definitely be encouraging by supporting local groups to make their views, and needs, heard."

Position on our asks:
Support for investment of 10% of transport budget — Yes — "I am in Edinburgh where the Greens helped push for the 10% of the transport budget to be spent on cycling infrastructure, which is crucial if we are to get more people cycling more often."
Support for high quality infrastructure — Yes — "We also want to set a clearer vision about the cycling transformation needed, including dedicated and joined-up routes, segregated cycle-ways, cycle-storage for tenements and on streets, a public bike hire scheme, and high-quality design for pedestrians and cyclists in new building and regeneration schemes. We understand the importance of a segregated cycle infrastructure if we are to get more people out on their bikes and feeling safer on their bikes. We would also like to make George Street and the Royal Mile for pedestrians and cyclists only, and to introduce a number of days where public transport, cycling and walking are given priority. We also plan to review and support delivery of school travel plans to so that pupils are coming to schools by foot, bike or public transport where possible."
Support for removing local barriers — Yes — "My ward could do a lot to improve and link up the cycling infrastructure we have. I often cycle from my home to work, or to the shops, or for campaigning, so I am aware there is a lot than can be improved. My kids (2 and 4) also love cycling, and I would love to see things improve before they are old enough to get out on the roads on their own!"

Position on our asks:
Support for investment of 10% of transport budget — Partial — "
City of Edinburgh Council has a role to play in sustained investment to help encourage and facilitate greater cycling and walking. Doing so creates a number of benefits, from the health of the individuals involved to safer, more pleasant streets and better traffic flow for essential journeys due to reduced congestion.
That said, the Edinburgh Conservative council manifesto does not commit to 10% of the transport budget on cycling and walking as we believe to do so would be too prescriptive.
For one, it is difficult to ring-fence measures that are purely for cycling nad walking. For example, road maintenance and improvements, one of our top priorities will benefit the many who are put off cycling by the potholes and dangerous surfaces of roads and cycle paths.
Remedying the serious deterioration in our roads and pavements is a priority which - when achieved, will benefit pedestrians, motor vehicle users and cyclists. This priority will benefit all these users at once and thus cannot be allocated from a budget pot purely for cycling/walking.
"
Support for removing local barriers — Partial — "Similarly measures to help reduce anti-social and criminal behaviour on cycle paths and in parks will encourage more cycling and walking but aren't directly targeted at these activities."
"And finally, I would like to see greater private partnership in active transport solutions, in particular in the sponsorship of a cycle hire scheme, as proposed by the Conservative Councillor group for many years and so successful in London and other cities."
