(Moved to it's own thread from incident one.)

This Wednesday (7th June), at 8:30 am, cyclists in Edinburgh will be marking Zhi Min Soh's death, and calling for the city to take action to ensure that a similar tragedy does not happen again. There will be a short, respectful protest at the junction where she died, reflecting the emotion that has bubbled up in the days since this senseless death. We ask anyone who can to come and join us, on bike or on foot, and whether you cycle or not.

There will be a group gathering outside West Register House at 8:15 a.m.

We will move on to the junction of Princes Street with Shandwick Place for 8:30 where a whistle will signify a minute's silence where we ask everyone to stand and observe this silence respectfully. A piper will then play a lament in memory of Zhi Min Soh and we will disperse.

    Plan a route there -

    UPDATE

Additional meeting places for 'feed-in' rides - no leaders as such, all riders responsible for themselves.

I can make a few flags. Any thoughts on the artwork?

Would be good to have an equally strong "Start..." slogan. I'm hoping to bring at least five placards/posters.

I'm inclined to go with 'Space for cyclists'?

As this is pretty much a bottom up event, put whatever you want on your placards ... the more personal the better, really

    Sure, but please share ideas.

I'm going to bring my kids (if they want to come).

Can't think of a better reason for them to be late to school for.

@hankchief above says meet 8.15 West Register House but the PoP blog says meet at 8.30 at "Shandwick Place."

Which of these should we be asking people to do when publicising the event? Or both, depending on what time you arrive at?

Also, will the travel from W Register House to the junction be walking with bike or cycling?

1 min silence is at Shandwick Pl as close to 8:30 as possible

WRHo is an optional assembly point, this was used as the start of last year's Roseburn Ride.

There is no way of knowing how many people will turn up.

Many will just turn up just before 8:30 at S Pl.

All is optional - apart from the one minute, static, silence which will be indicated by a whistle blow (before and after).

"will the travel from W Register House to the junction be walking with bike or cycling?"

Again personal choice - dependent on numbers and timing.

Not everyone will have a bike.

I'd be tempted to go with Think Bike as a banner.

I think others are planning to come from other directions. Things were all a bit fluid last night when we were putting the details together so the POP post went with the one settled thing which was 8:30 at Shandwick Place. I can add the alternative starting place if it helps

"I can add the alternative starting place if it helps"

If there is a guaranteed nucleus of people already agreeing to assembly in place(s?) about 10 mins ahead of the time they will need to leave to get to S Pl for 8:30, that would be useful.

I'm sure there will be plenty of people arranging to meet up for joint rides towards the centre. If they want to mention on here and invite others to join, that's up to them.

We will hold the one minutes silence at the point of the incident - infront of the Rutland Hotel/huxley. at junction of princes street, lothian road and Shandwick place.

Thanks ARObComp. I think that I will go straight there so as to avoid having to cross the tram tracks.

I would expect to fill the roadspace here very easily -

How far east and west this spreads won't be known until Wednesday.

  22. I will be outside the Scottish Office about 08:10 if anyone wants to meet there. I'll ride past Rabbie's offices on waterloo Place, along Princes Street to the West End. I aim to get to the junction just before 8:30

chdot, can your tweet be spruced up a little to encourage re-tweeting? Add in @ to relevant org accounts, add one or two easy to follow hashtags, and more info on the incident the 1 min silence relates to. Whatever can be fitted in. At the moment if anyone re-tweets it there's a huge amount of context/links not filled in and I don't think most of my Edinburgh-based followers would understand what it's referring to without digging around.
I'm happy to re-tweet a more rounded one if anyone can point me to an example, to help :)

@querty I will do others, but this is deliberately low key for those who are 'aware' but maybe not sure of final details and locations.

    There are others -

"I will be outside the Scottish Office about 08:10"

    Presume St. Andrew House.

    Good place to meet.

Maybe push bikes from S Charlotte St?

There have been several references to the Tour Company, for whom I hold absolutely no brief whatsoever, but can we please let the fatal accident enquiry do its job in that respect. This is about a needless death and badly designed roads.
