Overheard in the office, Apparently some boat needs to go under and it's a security risk!

Apart from being RIDICULOUS, must be a very slow boat!!!

Well it is 3 Billion pounds worth of boat, so hopefully not that slow.

Justified, otherwise it would be far too tempting to throw a paper aeroplane down, and claim the first / only landing on the carrier...

How clever of them to draw attention to any terrorists out there that there's a boat full of nuclear waste / toxic chemicals / military hardware passing...

I hate to be that guy but it's probably to stop people piling up on the bridge to watch the boat go under. One thing most bridges aren't set up for is as viewing galleries and crowd control.

I read the requisite maneuveres to get out the dock. Rather them than me, who's taking odds on how long before it's sitting on a sandbank.

Probably right about sightseers - fragile bridge...

But shut for 7 1/2 hours??

They've (apparently) got less than a metre clearance getting out of dock, and other issues with draught. They probably don't want to be too specific about when it will happen in case they're late.

But yeah that's a big window.

    Low(est) tide 23:21

Interestingly the previous tide is actually 0.4m lower - can't be that tight then!

I think there are issues with the draught as well so they probably need just the 'right' tide.

Shame about the doorway, was planning on heading there.

Tweet from FRB says both footways closed by PlodScotland with immediate effect.

    Now that's just silly.

    Don't think "silly" covers it.

Need a word combining "paranoia" "contempt for taxpayers" and "waste of police resources".

"Presume vehicle carriageways shut too... "

but that would be declaring WAR on the motorist

    Presume vehicle carriageways shut too...

C'mon, a driver can't do the same damage as someone wielding a bicycle.

Don't even think about trying to view this from on the water. The carrier will be heavily guarded by security boats I am told.

I also expect the FRB will be closed briefly to all traffic as the big boats passes under the bridges.

    "briefly"

Hopefully not too briefly if they're worried about their mast poking the bridges' undersides; they ought to be going slowly. Presumably they also don't want non-vehicle-enclosed people within earshot of any grinding or screeching or swearing noises.

It will leave Rosyth at high tide which is expected at 4.30pm but will then have to wait until low tide at 10.30pm to begin its pass under the bridge.

Are we sure it's for security and not for avoiding a big crush on the bridge as folk try to watch (and safety as it actually goes underneath.)

So, if it can't get out, does that mean that the inner Forth will be the best protected bit of coast in the World?

Not sure about the world, wouldn't like to sail past where ever they keep the US carrier fleet but if I were China I'd be curious why we built a big boat then engineered some excuse why we couldn't get it out dry dock.

I don't think "contempt for taxpayers", in this context, is even remotely close to Mrs May's business of the day today!

cops closed it early, around 3pm.

queues of commuting cyclists trying to cross

amey got no advance warning whatsoever, so no extra vehicles or drivers deployed to ferry bikes over

SMIDGAF from the cops this time, without grins
