Has anyone had their 10% discount voucher from Halfords yet? I registered a few days ago and was hoping to use it on a purchase before the weekend.

@Tulyar Thanks for overview of how it was in Glasgow.
Kim is indeed looking for an Urban Arrow grouping. I'll be around doing something non disruptive as accept that it is a bit of an unknown. Main thing is that it shows a younger profile - and shows CEC that the city can survive a few streets being closed. Ideally they could hold more inclusive events (Breathe Easy Sunday?) where the 50% of non car owning households can get a chance to walk and cycle closed streets in a non sportive manner.

(Reminder for any Cycling UK/CTC members that you get 10% off cycling purchases in Halfords; and 15% off in Cotswolds)

Well FWIW, I've signed up for the ride. I will probably bring the Elephant Bike.

But like Greenroofer, I was dismayed by the sheer amount of personal information the website required in order for me to make any changes – including certain opt-outs* of publicly available information – to my profile. I mean, phone number and next of kin and my date of birth? Really? I was minded to supply a certain amount of disinformation.

    * Note the erosion of privacy in modern times, where the default is "share everything".

As with most events that BC has a hand in organising they seem to go OTT with the personal detail stuff - at least they've dropped the H**Ts stuff - but occasionally the R word is race & not ride, if someone fails to proof read the publicity/conditions.

I signed up with the barest of information (name, address, email, maybe DOB). It only asks for the really personal stuff to 'complete your profile' which you must do to add extra people to your booking. As a consequence, I'm not adding to my booking and anyone who tags along just won't be registered. HSBC's loss. They could have had more data to mine if they'd not gone so far.

The HSBC City Ride starts from the Meadows at 11am.

For those without a bike, Cycle Scotland is hiring bikes out for the day. It has a mix of adult bikes for men and women available at £10 for two hours or £15 for three hours and some children’s bikes – £5 for two or three hours and ebikes – £20 for two hours and £30 for three hours.

It seem the registration is superfluous.

"...nothing more required, just you and a bike (or hire bike) and you can join the route at any point."

That is a reply to -

    "

I've registered for Sunday, do we need anything when we turn up? Not had any follow up emails.

    "

But I still don't know in what sense it's necessary to register to ride the streets.

    All seems good fun.

    Lots of CCEers

    Free horns (and other things)

    Seen first EleBike (ACat)

    No style/bib/helmeting policing on route.

I just popped out of my flat and jumped on my bike, sans tabard, for a couple of laps of the public course. Most seemed to have an official tabard and there were a lot of horns being sounded, but I didn't feel out of place... I assume that the ToB peleton weren't diverted through the bubble tunnel.

They couldn't give enough tabards away. I was asked if I wanted any for friends.

It's unlikely I'll ever use my new horn but just looking at it makes me chuckle.

Lets get the bad bit out of the way first - actually getting to the event. Lots of close passes by the usual suspects eager to stick to the bumper of the car in front and sit behind it at red lights.

Now the good. Lots of patient drivers giving slow wide passes.

It was great riding on the closed roads and a good way of getting exercise. Some seemed to be treating it as a Tour de France stage but thankfully there were no accidents that I saw.

Pleasant brunch at a restaurant on George IV Bridge. Ride home a lot more pleasant - lots of cars carrying (small and large) bikes.

Would be nice if this could happen every month!

Thanks to all the volunteers / marshalls who helped to make it happen.

I watched the start of the TOB then headed over to the Meadows for the City Ride. No pre-registration, didn't bother with the tabbard, just jumped on the route and did a couple of very pleasant laps. No one bothered. A nice way to spend an hour or so on a Sunday morning. Not surprised about the British Cycling paperwork, sort of sums up that organisation in my opinion. Bumped into Hank Chief who I hadn't seen since we did LEL so swapped some stories then headed home.
Did the Queensferry Crossing this afternoon. Another good event to experience but the level of bureaucracy made British Cycling look like amateurs....

Wonder how many such places got extra business today?

I really enjoyed that. It was amazing cycling up Buccleuch street and seeing people sitting outside cafés actually able to enjoy being there. It would be amazing if the city had the courage to do this all the time.

Nice to be able to manage very quick waves at the HankChief and BikeTrain clans (thank you very much for the loan of the multi-tool), and the SRD clan looking incredibly sporty.

If George IV Bridge was taken down to 2 lanes for motor traffic rather than 4, it could be like this every weekend, and wouldn't cost £Ms.

Nice day out in the city centre in spite of the relentless branding. It was a pretty spectacular route. (I love the sound on that video @algo.) I couldn't pursuade Mr Weezee to personalise his tabard with that name, but I did get a few shout-outs from fellow forumers because of mine.

Did anyone else do the 'survey'? Mr Weezee was approached by a person with a clipboard and asked a number of questions about his 'goals' for cycling and where he was getting support for 'achieving his goals'(like from me?!). Given that his first answer was that he cycles every day and he had no goals, the rest of it seemed pointless.

As expected, Weezette A had a ball and did the circuit twice under his own steam, Weezette B reclined for the circuits but suddenly decided he wanted to cycle himself home on the open road. Thankfully we only encountered patient drivers as we stuttered across numerous intersections with rubbish sightlines.

At what age is it deemed unacceptable to still make that joyful noise? I still do it in my head sometimes.

We really enjoyed it. Most of the time I carried 3yearold in the Weeride, and had the balance bike in my pannier, but stopped at the bubble tunnel to let her ride laps of Chambers Street (only her 2nd time on road rather than pavement, and first time riding with parents on bikes rather than running on foot).

Cafes were packed with luminous jackets afterwards.

Later in the afternoon I could hear the sound of horns coming from all around the neighbourhood.
