Weather set fair. I am stricken with stomach bug but relaxing before 1852 to Carlisle. One hour down 8 hours back

700 did it last year, can this be right?

@gembo, if only there was still a station at Barnton we could have abbreviated the journey. We'll have to spare a thought for the capable crew in their nice cosy sleeping bags while we keep riding all night.

@acsimpson, they are softees. DaveC already been to England and back. At this rate he will be home before we leave. No late opening chip shop, no cycle rave at abandoned pub, no midges, nothing.

I went via the Granites and Eskdalemuir and have recently arrived in Carlisle. I waved at DaveC, who was heading into the town centre as I headed out.

I guess the Feshie group will be beyond the reach of mobile communications. So glad the weather is fine this weekend.

Things learned this weekend: Iwrats speaks owl. Iain McR is keeping a terrible secret from Mrs McR. I should have made sandwiches. Never say "that's the last obstacle".

With a bit of practice I might get into this pseudo bike packing thing.

@iwrats, do you need help with your official letter of complaint re: slippy rocks and other failings?

I enjoyed that hugely and I get the impression that everyone did, even though overcoming obstacles is part of the whole off-road touring thing. Thanks to everyone for their company.

Don't suppose anyone rode to the sun carrying a bottle of wine and a wetsuit?

Let's remember this in six months time when we're doing the "2019 CCE goals thread".

Ah no IWRATS no one did that. And my contact who insisted I would have two ecstasy tablets at the Crook Inn Rave (also with fire) was not there. For which I was glad.

Also I might not want to wear those shorts on the mtn bike again. I have a personal chafing. I should have packed the clove oil infused bum butter...

Did I ever tell you about the Crook Inncident?

Also note; We invented the 'notolep'. A group of cyclists not riding together but heading to the same place and arriving at the same time and arriving as friends.

@iwrats, no please tell us about the Crook Inn Incident

OK @gembo I will. Long story short went for a nice Sunday afternoon walk in the Borders with some friends. Lovely day. Have you all got maps, compasses, full body cover I asked, Hahahah they all said it is an afternoon stroll.

Group fires off the summits down into a glen. I look quizzically at map and decide group is right, compass is malfunctioning. We come to a river in a nice valley and everyone is like where is this? I scan through binoculars and head spins when I see the Crook Inn. We are many miles off track.

I order a forced march on compass line to get back to cars just as sun goes down. I have the only head torch.

Great psychology study. Incorrect risk perception in the familiar, group-think, acceptance of reality, establishment of emergency hierarchy, some poorly founded resentment.

    WITH AN OWL.

Were you tempted to disappear into the undergrowth with all your equipment then watch the others to see what they would do without your support?

Aha, that explains the comment on my Strava upload from some random called Steve... ;-)

It was brilliant. Apart from the last 10km, which were very hard work. I was completely broken at the end - that counts alongside the Snow Roads as one of the hardest things I've done. I want to do it again next year.
Flimed for The Adventure Show, they will have been delighted with the weather (as were the rest of us).
Oh, and it is a bit over marathon distance. It is a Hill race, anyway, not a marathon.

Hi, I'm from the internets :D

    It was brilliant

I've looked at it before as a kind of aspirational target but I've aways to go before then. Some of the times folk set are amazing!

Adventure Show has been busy then!?
    Will be fun to watch.

Well done to all on these (running, cycling, offroading) escapades using the long days and good weather!

Odd that their website doesn't advertise these as an attraction.

I'd have thought that it would be right up there with the deer stalking...

Likely just kept to stymie responsible access!
