    So we need a midge-proof beer tent with an open fire, yes?
    going to need a bigger boat.

    Surely we'd want the 15-person model? Be ambitious!

    "You need to get higher, midges generally give up at 500m :D" I've been midged (only once, admittedly) on the summit of a Munro...

    I think it was someone on here who posted a link a couple of weeks ago to this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04tqk1n/secret-knowledge-the-living-mountain-a-cairngorms-journey

    I can't find the post now, but thanks, whoever it was.

    Capital Trail / 200ish km
    Friday 24th May, 3 days.

    Not self-supporting, B&B/hostel or similar. Will probably arrange bag transport (the lovely MrsMcR) between accommodations so we don't have to carry stuff. I will be taking the overly complicated 29er so I can’t stray too far from a bike shop or rescue by car.

    Anyone in ?

    Proposed speed? (I may have left on a mini epic round all six Scottish World Heritage Sites by bike & boat by then but if not...)

    @urchaidh

    Delectably you seem not to believe the party will require welcoming back to Porty Beach. Truly prophetic.

    @Iain McR

    I'll consider coming if I'm allowed to cause a series of 'amusing' crises and then write a Three Men in a Boat style travelogue about falling in ditches, getting chased by cows etc.

    @unhurt

    If you cycle a pedalo to St Kilda you win the Overnight Capables thread for good.

    Mr fimm did the Capital Trail with a friend last summer.
    I can offer some of his comments if people are interested (but maybe you would just like to go and explore).

    I've got something on sometime in May so I'll not get two passes. Have fun.

    @fimm

    Be not shy. What did Mr fimm make of the trail? I have spotted one bit that doesn't really exist.

    Well, they particularly enjoyed the section over the Lammermuirs, and the Cross Borders Drove Road back from Innerleithen to the Pentlands.
    However they found the climb up Dun Rig a complete PITA hike-a-bike and would not go that way again. They also left out the Innerliethen Red Route part of the route as 1) being a bit pointless/out of keeping with the rest of the route and 2) they didn't have time...

    (ETA I can probably find you Strava traces if you really want.)

    @ Fimm - does Mr Fimm like a beer ? I feel a session with maps and pints coming on.

    That is the bit I described as 'not existing'. There is a work-around.

    I've run up there and it is quite intractable.

    Mr fimm does indeed like beer... I think I can persuade him to drink some with Random People Off The Internet...

    Capital trail adventure has moved from one of multiple possible daydreams that usually get binned and entered the realm of 'it is definitely probably on', possibly.

    now investigating accomm:
    Day 1 - Gala
    Day 2 - Peebles.

    @fimm - I may start talking to random strangers in the pub in the hope I bump into Mr fimm.

    all welcome.

    Bailing options for the slow & weak?

    Good pubs at Gala / Peebs?

    I like the Tontine and the Bridge Inn in Peebles. Fascinated by the Neidpath Inn but never been inn.

    Gala a toxic wasteland I believe.

    Gala has a good fish and chip shop; I went there once on my old VFR with the Curvy Riders. Tweedbank is a bit more of the wasteland than Gala, at least the railway station is.

    Riding a VFR through the Gala bends should be on anybody's list of life goals.

    The RockShox Reverb AXS, priced at £700, is SRAM’s first electronic dropper post.

    I've read that 3 times and I'm still not sure I am reading it right.

    Tues 19th @ Summerhall ?

    Any recommendations for nice bivvy/camp spots in the South East borders? My mate in Newcastle and I are always saying we need to do more overnighters, but half way is the lower Tweed Valley and from memory its not terribly interesting.

    Kielder, Hadrian's Wall (fun sleeping in one of the old forts?), Holy island/anywhere on the Northumberland Coast (meet at Alnmouth Station?).
