Has Mr fimm mentioned that he is almost certainly coming with us ?
He didn't actually say so in so many words, but reading between the lines after 3 pints I think it was fairly clear.

IWRATS you are not in trouble.
Iain McR I didn't get that impression when Mr fimm came home...Posted 5 years ago # -

I can't believe there are no comments on that article. Scotsman + bicycle = vat of boiling spittle usually.
@chdot
Trailers are niche. We do not talk of trailers in the light.

“Trailers are niche”
Yes, but that was (partly) your usp - especially in the context of ‘you don’t need expensive/dedicated “bikepacking” gear’.

I did consider posting some diatribe about a cyclist riding on the footpaths all over the cairngorms ignoring the lights etc but couldn't summon the energy.

Nice article. Thanks for informing me of the Borders Drove Road, I'll be having a bit of that...

Hoping for live reports on progress. Will Iwrats make you sleep in a ditch underneath his
upturned shopping trolleybikepacking trailer? Will you goad him into a frenzy by saying swifts are crap birds? Will a stealth Steveo appear from an apparently inaccessible pinnacle?PS this is a week earlier than I thought it was but I still can't go.

The trolley will stay in its wee hoosie. I have attached an Ortlieb roll-top bag to my Jones H-Loop bars and grown a full beard in an attempt to look the part. I even got a bottle cage. Brave new world.

Have fun!

@Iain McR et al. Is it possible to tag along for a day ride tomorrow? i.e. join in at Portobello and head back when it's time to head back? Don't worry if not!
Posted 5 years ago # -
@bill
Absolutely. If we can keep up with your atomic-powered Livi-commuting legs.

/consults map...
Tragically (for the kids) I'm primary parent for the next couple of days so am in effect grounded.
Have fun guys.
I actually could do with some Intel on bit between Traquair and Kirkhope law.

If you mean the climb on to Dun Rig, that's the bit Mr fimm does not recommend...Posted 5 years ago # -
Good luck with that. The route takes you past the bottom of our road at 6km. Possibly too early to provide a pop-up food stop but I may see you if I am out walking the dog.

Ah just noticed the capital trail approaches Peebles further south than I thought. I wanted to know how the drove road was at that section.

Mr Stitz can only be qualified as an 'enthusiast' in the 17th century sense.
Accessing Gypsy Glen by the slopes of Dun Rig may not seem like fun viewed from Traquair. There are other options and I will not hesitate to take them if the official route doesn't appeal for whatever reason.

Have a fantastic trip all!
Posted 5 years ago # -
Well if one of those options is the drove road let me know how it is.

Unexpectedly wife and child free tomorrow night. Feel like I should do an easy trip but I can't decide if/where I should go.
Its funny you can spend weeks in the office day dreaming about a trip but faced with all the options in the country (including just sitting in the house with a beer) I'm at a loss.
Suggestions would be appreciated, even just go out you lazy git.

For three hours from Balerno go Lang Whang to tarbrax turn, nice descent to auchengray, just before the actual village of auchengray take the sharpe right and you are on nice Tarmac of mud road (not Muddy) goes down then up over the railway. Then round to wilsontown(sneaky cuthrough on weak bridge) then up to Braehead. Then down the steepish hill to the carstairs esker and hit central Carnwath, should be wild on a Friday night then come back in the Whang?
4 o'clock to 7 o'clock? Sadly apple pie closed at this time

Cheers gembo, was thinking more of an easy overnight camp/bothy trip. Though I'm keeping that route in mind for when Mrs s is here to watch the kids.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Go out and join the over night expendables?
Posted 5 years ago # -
I've tweeted iwrats to see where they'll be, if I can catch up using the auto mobile that might be an option for the night.
Posted 5 years ago # -
@IWRATS et al. Thanks for the info. If I won't oversleep I will see you in the morning.
Posted 5 years ago # -
Advienne que pourras. If the ride is good the account of it will appear here on Monday, if it's bad it will be available from all good booksellers in 2021. (Assuming books are permitted by the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth.)

I think Frankie and I saw the Capables crossing Rennie's Bridge in Musselburgh this morning.
