Not this Hogmanay but next will be the young pretender’s 300th anniversary. (Of birth). How can one Jacobite fopp have so many names?

    Dramatis personae for my first novel;

Charles Edward - fundamentally decent civil servant led astray by Sylvester John - jazz musician and amateur drug fiend ineptly exsanguinated by Severino Casimir - international assassin with PTSD tracked by Chief Inspector Maria Stuart - gently spoken but hard-bitten Highland detective seconded to MI5.

Nice, is this the one set in Kay’s Bar?

That's where the opening scene is set. Sylvester John is rattling and tries to swap a hand-made tweed suit for the location of a legendary bothy in Knoydart where, unbeknownst to him Severino Casimir has taken refuge in an attempt to slay his inner demons.

Internet and books. And mountain bikes?

The ones you can drive to I guess won't survive. We'll be left with the secret Knoydart bothy as Machu Pichu.

Bothies in the borders/Northumberland have been "party" bothies for years, probably long before the Internet "ruined" things. Local knowledge works both ways. At least with the increased publicity folks who might be future maintenance officers or work party regulars hear about bothies and they might survive the current generation.

With madame in Finland and my week's tasks complete I think I'll rumble down to Gullane and pitch the tent on the beach, watch the sun go down, nod off to the sound of waves.

Deep in the English countryside on a golden midsummer evening, 16 young people have gathered to plot the night’s entertainment. Partially organised by word of mouth, partially through WhatsApp, we have arrived ready at the meeting point

Hare Hill does have they quarry bit... but it's quite stoney...

    Hmm, or a week night?

I have to be in Orkney week after next, and super busy now I'm back from travels various, but the warm is appealing...

Alternate suggestion: if the tides are right a Cramond Island CCE camp out? Unless we are likely to end up annoying the jaikies?

Ride out's a good idea. Gullane didn't work. Heavens opened at Aberlady. Pockets full, couldn't see the paths for floodwater.
Lucky I had lights. Bought a packet of biscuits, ate them and headed home, got in all cold and bereft at 22h30.

So yeah, up for a local overnighter.

Trails round the dacha are hard to reach, man. Lots of good-looking lines on the map over the border in our entirely sane southern neighbour.

Cramond I think would be fun!

If you head up towards 9 mile burn from Bavelaw there's a nice wee hollow that people have assembled stones to sit on for picnics, could be campable but it's not very far! Bird hide as emergency shelter ;-)

If you go to harperrig, turn right before you get to the castle and head towards Colzium farm, there's semi-cleared forestry stuff with wild meadows and things! I was having an explore and it looks nice! I know the people at Colzium so might ask them, there seems to be be paths and that about the place...

    The Dacha??

Ryvoan bothy is cycle able to on a mountain bike, possibly a gravel bike (there are stony bits) from the Glenmore/loch morlich direction. Loch Morlich is also campable but hoaching busy currently.

Ryvoan is a bit wee but has a small field/garden we could put tents in and cook dinner on the stove...

Gravel bike fine to Ryvoan, but Ryvoan hoacheth in school holibags.

I am. Prefer Pentlands to Crammond (not a fan of rats), but could do either.

How about if I ask for the key to the Bunny's Bothy in the Lauder Hills? Don't ask don't get.

Does a half dozen cce'ers count as a party?

Even the entirety of CCE isn't a 'party'. We're just too serious.

I'm up for anything really. I've got a weekend penciled in at the end of August for a run across the Cairngorms I'm just not in good enough condition for so... Anything really.
