Trying to stave off winter? I could be persuaded, assuming there is more cycling and drinking than actual camping. :)

@neddie
There's tonnes of kit in CCE lofts. We'll sort you out somehow. Outside of school hols bothy options should be playable too.
@everyone
Thinking caps on for routes and overnight spots that allow cycling/drinking/hijinx in variable quantities?

I've been considering a visit to Ben Alder Cottage from Dalwhinnie.
About 30km, not too much hike a bike and in lieu of a tent you can carry a lot of whisky from the distillery.

@steveo
Snap. It's haunted mind.

I'll bring a proton pack

Very positive.

While stocks last -

Couple of people on twitter cycled to Cadderlie on Loch Etive the other day so that might be an option.
Bothies I have been to:
Easier: Allt Sheicheachan from Blair Atholl (good land rover track all the way).
Harder: the Tarf Hotel (I have no idea if it is possible to get there by bike).Posted 4 years ago # -
I would be up for this. I'll leave the route planning to the experts - although having had a quick internet trawl, I do like the look of the Ben Alder cottage route.

So where seems okay, When?
I suggest the 16th of May, Saturday out, Sunday back.
Posted 4 years ago # -
OK looks like a goer. @steveo shall we put wir heeds thegither for a route plan?
@bax
Noted. Still flinched at the word 'howff' for ancient reasons.
Posted 4 years ago # -
@iwrats gotcha, lol
Posted 4 years ago # -
@IWRATS, up and over Ben Alder is the only acceptable route I think.
Posted 4 years ago # -
I might be up for this.

stride on beyond culra, up and over the bealach
five kilos of coal and a crate of heineken each
Posted 4 years ago # -
Clearly, but where will we go once off the summit?
(The 750m Bealach Dubh giving access to Corrour is actually rideable without luggage.)

Sounds like the lyrics of a modern folk song

It's OK I'll go up the weekend before and bury a supply dump nearby. Coal and Heineken for everyone, coffee, breakfast, panniers and a new front mech for Iain McR.
Posted 4 years ago # -
From some cursory reading (I personally haven't been that way) Bealach Dubh might be a better option than the slog round Loch Ericht.
Posted 4 years ago # -
It is a 750m summit but it's not technical at all. Last hundred metres are steep.
I've got a friendlier option and will share it via secret back channels.

It better be helicopter.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Porters. They carry us AND the bikes.
I think I'm free those dates.
Posted 4 years ago # -
Porters ? So last year.

A burro train!

Would there be a lower age limit? Or is it just going to be assessed by ability to consume whisky?
Posted 4 years ago # -
What is 'age'?
Have forwarded secret message to you.

Secret message received & understood.
A note of caution that the trains back from Dalwhinnie are few & far between on a Sunday. 11.52 or 20.02 are the only options heading south unless you add 15miles to get to Kingussie.
It does look a very good route so may be worth the hassle of coordinating motorised conveyance.

Trains from Carrbridge leave at 16h58 and 19h25 on Sunday. You can get there for 10h00 on Saturday if you leave at 06h48.
Currently £56 for a return.

Ah. Gotcha.
Secret message wasn't quite understood first time.
I note Carrbridge also has some single track routes https://www.trailforks.com/region/carrbridge-24533/
