Looking at the plans large sections of this latest design are being laid out with rubber blocks of one type or another. Hopefully that means it can be improved with proper one way segregated lanes in the future rather than the very poor 1.5m two way lanes they are currently specifying.

Given it is (was?) one of perhaps only three high quality segregated routes it’s so frustrating to see big chunks of that actual segregation ripped out.

South Gyle Crescent and Bankhead Avenue in particular are enormous drops in quality. Not forgetting essentially the entire north section, including bridge, has already been thrown into the long grass.

Nah mate, they're too busy setting up bogus consultations - wasting precious council officer time - INSTEAD OF JUST DOING THE RIGHT THING (and implementing their own policy)

“West Edinburgh Link” is this the same as WEATN?

Following a discussion at @ColintonCC yesterday evening, I'm happy to confirm that the West Edinburgh Link is in the final stages of technical design and the Council have an engaged, though not yet appointed the contractor. Works are due to start in 2024.

The design layout for the Lanark Road (Hailes Gardens - my Ward) crossing is shown below, though it is worth noting that this design may be subject to some alterations following technical design - the alignment and shared use layout of the crossing will remain.

Is Hailes Gardens viable for an active travel route? A lot of the roads round there are unsurfaced / unadopted...

While since I've been down it, but pretty sure its surface is fine, and it's adopted.

Bigger problem may be the indirectness - not sure how they're planning on connecting it to anything east of Hailes Gardens.

Hailes Gardens come out at the top of Spylaw Bank Road. While I'm not in general in favour of cries of "this is unsuitable because hills!", the only reason I have cycled up Spylaw Bank Road is to hurt myself by doing hill reps...

    According to the diagram here
, it's Hailes Approach, Spylaw Bank Rd and the stub of Dell Rd, then 'somebody else's problem'.

What's that, Lassie? There's steps after that to get onto the Water of Leith path (as far as I recall)? Oh well

Nevermind, Dr Arthur will be along shortly to propose a gold-plated elevator down to the WoL path. SNP/Greens to pay for it of course
