    "

From this time, services X51, X55 and 747 will use the Forth Road Bridge and will continue to serve the Forth Road Bridge south access stops.

All other services will continue to use the Queensferry Crossing, as it will remain the quickest journey, until all bus lanes are available.

confirmed that I saw a 747 on the FRB this morning.

Southbound carriageway is still a mess, but excitingly for cyclists we are back on the footpath. It is lovely and shiny as far as the top of the slip road, but it needs the final layer of tarmac for about 300yds after that. But still beats going over unsurfaced rubbish for most of the way

great news @paddyirish . i have to car it today for business reasons, but i did notice the change in cones / barriers on the entry slip at ferrytoll.

lets hope they get the final bit done for cyclists.

(and of course there is still the other side to do as well?!)

I suspect that doesn't mean what I'd really wanted it to mean. I was almost excited for a moment there.

oooooooo one bus passed me on the way into today,
that should ease the QFC queues...!?!

nice tarmac on the cycle path, although raised manholes not so great.

Went for a cycle there yesterday. What a pleasure - beautiful day, loads of families walking, no motorisers except for a couple of buses and one car.

Forth Road Bridge to reopen to public transport

The Forth Road Bridge is due to reopen to public transport. It will be used by pedestrians and cyclists as well as buses, taxis and smaller motorbikes from Thursday. The Queensferry Crossing is to officially become a motorway, which means cyclists and pedestrians must have an alternative bridge to cross. Transport Minister Humza Yousaf said: "It is tremendously satisfying to see our vision for a managed, dual-bridge strategy come to pass."

    ---

...many of the commitments made in the Forth Replacement Crossing Public Transport Strategy (PTS) have not been delivered — more than 8 years after the PTS was established. There appears to be no sign that a number of major commitments – including bus priority measures and new park & ride facilities – are being moved forward in the near future.

    ---

Colin Howden, Director of Transform Scotland, said: “It’s obviously welcome that the Forth Road Bridge is being prioritised for walkers, cyclists and bus users. However, the bridge on its own doesn’t deliver a ‘public transport corridor’, as the Scottish Ministers claim. Bus journey times into Edinburgh won’t improve significantly until public transport priority is put in place at either end of the bridge and not just on the bridge itself. Unfortunately, most of the major commitments made by Transport Scotland towards public transport investment have not materialised, notably A8 corridor bus priority measures, improvements in bus priorities between Barnton and Edinburgh, or a new bus park & ride site at Livingston.”

    Related slightly....
#Scottish Budget approved with Green support and influence. Labour did have a counter proposal but too late to enter negotiations?

High-carbon projects like new trunk roads will halve - from 23% to 12% of total capital spend.
Low carbon projects like rail, buses and warm homes will go up - from 21% to 28%. #ScotBudget

'or a new bus park & ride site at Livingston'

Why would you use a bus when the train takes about 18 minutes?

West Lothian Council a few years ago put in 3 'Fastlink' park and ride locations om the dual carriageway. There were supposed to be buses into Edinburgh every 15 minutes. Apparently they forgot about the car park that is the M8.

Only way that system would work is with a dedicated bus lane along the M8.

Needles to say the buses every 15 minutes lasted about a year, and they then expanded the car parks at Uphall and Livingston North train stations, which is what they should have done in the first place...

Having ridden across the bridge later today I wonder if the Minister was embarrassed to find he was only opening half a bridge?

They're at it again with the old bait-and-switch. The bus lanes on connecting roads will never materialise. When the M74x was being built through Glasgow we were promised reallocation of space to sustainable transport on the old local roads. Never happened. It's just a ruse, deception, a bit of greenwash on a mega road project.

had to drive again today - dont ask - but the opening of the FRB made zero difference to the every increasing traffic queue at the bridge .

any bets on how long before they open the hard shoulder as an extra lane?

Laidback - I'm sure Andy Wightman has the correct figures, but I suspect some Scottish Government smoke and mirrors here.

The completion for the Queensferry Crossing (paid through traditional capital investment) accounts for a big fall in the trunk road capital budget. The M8 and AWPR are PFI projects, so even though the 30 years worth of annual payments are starting, they are still less than was being spent on the QC annually. The A9 and A96 dualling are very long term projects, so investment is spread over a decade or more.

I'm not really seeing much of a change in heart from the SG here.

rider73, I'm not convinced that opening the hard shoulder would increase capacity my much. The hold ups when I have (rarely) been travelling over it all seem to be on the approach and once on the bridge it all appears to move smoothly.

ooooo dont think i dont agree with what your saying @acsimpson - but those people "upstairs" need to be seen doing something (or saying something to get them into the next election) even its going to make no difference!

one thing is for sure, its only going to get worse with all the houses being built on the north side of the pond

A couple of FB related stories on the Beeb web site at the mo.

One about scallywag rat run drivers will be familar to most.

This one about filling an old railway tunnel with polystyrene blocks is unusual. Apparently it passes under the access roads for both bridges. I wonder if these costs were factored into the overall budget for the new bridge? Or have they been hidden away in some other budget?

I'm assuming they've moved the ANPR camera to the new bridge otherwise it would be a piece of cake to fine these scallywags.

Well as long they had tax insurance and mot then ANPR camera may be cool with the bridge runner ? Not sure what would be the fixed penalty for using the bridge, a bit like driving through princes street not sure fix penalty applicable. I guess if someone was stopped then a carefree attention deficit type offense’s possibly.

That's the St Margaret's Tunnel, whose portals were filled in when the bridge was built.

Why the fuss about people using the old FR bridge- I just don't get it. It makes sense for Fifers wanting to go to S Queensferry and vice versa. If more use it, then it will probably stay open for longer.

If Davidson's lot got in I reckon the FRB will be closed before the end of their first term.

If I was a regular user of the new bridge (I wonder if I'll ever stop calling it that) I'd be quite happy that those 100 cars weren't adding to my congestion. Unless the numbers start increasing its probably not worth worrying about.
