@IWRATS I think that at least one of the dogs has changed and there was a period during which he only had one dog. I didn't spot any head wounds (and haven't specifically done so in the past either for that matter) due to the darkness under the bridge; also, he was mostly facing away from me.

Yes, I spotted him during the one dog phase. Still had the massive gloves and the shopping bag on wheels though.

Don't get me started on dogs.
I'm with Richard Ballantine (he of Richard's Bicycle Book) on this.
Latest anecdote involves walking along past Holyrood Palace on Sunday after fireworks with kids in tow. Two blokes approached from the darkness, obviously drunk or stoned, with a huge rottweiler which was barely under control, straining at the lead, and lunging menacingly at passersby while nearly toppling its handler.
Upon sighting this, we swiftly made for the pelican crossing and started across to the other side of the road to avoid them, but they came after us, as they were wanting a light for a cigar. I called out that no, I don't smoke, don't have a light: twice as their hearing seemed impaired. Luckily a taxi came by and put a barrier between us and the still lunging mutt. They staggered off to bother others.
We crossed back over further on to resume our journey once they had rolled off into the gloom.
What possesses folk to keep a dog like that in the city remains a mystery to me.

Terrible things are happening to Chihuahuas on Porty Prom.
Poor wee creature had heart attack when attacked by 3 other dogs
Owner of the Chihuahuas Fudge and Sky has called for Police to patrol the prom to stop this happening again
