Ged is a quality from-a-book name. Well played Ged's parents.

Ged could join Fietsclub Balerno? Would be good to draft over the Lang Whang :-)
Seriously though I hope he still comes to bike events.
    In other news...
Andrew Davies has retired from The Bicycle Works (amicably). He will be missed but things will carry on much as before. Settled team there working shifts.

Back to the topic now or can post on other thread.

I think we should have a Ged Festival to celebrate the exceptional human being. We should get the guy who cycles on stilts to attend from POP.

@unhurt short for Jedidiah (n.b. Made that up). @laidback I shall make a new thread and call it Ged Thread

Mark Beaumont seems quite public-spirited - he's been supporting Bike for Refugees.

Any chance he could turn up on his penny-farthing?

Just waking this one up to see if anyone else has any ideas or if the smoothie bike has been secured? We've got some music (thanks NiallA) and a few other things but still got space for more. It could just be a half an hour of something here or there - doesn't have to be a commitment for the whole day.

On smoothie bike, EBC unclear how this is going to pan out now that GED has retired. I have to phone Derek

A week to go & Suzanne and I are panicking that nobody will come... Please spread the word!

Typically, we have had to move the spot slightly down the road because our chosen location would have been too dangerous due to speeding cars. I think that makes our point!

  10. Speeding cars? on a 20 mph limit road?

@sallyhinch it's going on our intranet "things happening" page and in the accompanying email on Monday.

Ah, I thought this was within the front bit at Scot Gov.

There is an outside chance the smoothie bike will be available.

However, it must be picked up in a motor, from Bruntsfield, not broken during the day, cleaned then returned to Bruntsfield.

I am not around much next Friday but can facilitate. 5-door with the back seats down fine for the bike, the box, the trainer, the jugs. Supplies needed - Frozen fruit. bananas - fruit juice

@gembo - I will check with Suzanne whether this is going to be possible.

Amazingly, it seems despite the 20mph limit, cars still go too fast ..

Our big coolbox e-bike could take stuff.

@laidback, involve a bike a trainer to put the bike on, a coolbox quite big and two jugs.

Might be feasible without a motor but not easy.

    So, the bike isn't rideable?

Well, it is rideable if the Dynamo that fires the smoothie maker can be detached and reattached. I did look at doing this one time and can't remember what we did. It is I think similar to a rim Dynamo just fired off the back wheel. I can ask them.

With coolbox was only expecting to provide transport and storage of edibles rather than hardware. So supplementary to bringing all the stuff by car.
I can lend out an e-bike and carry freedom too if that was any use to reduce car need.

I have emailed Suzanne to see if we will be able to sort out transport, should the smoothie bike become available. Coolbox cargo bike would be fantastic if that does happen (and maybe even if it doesn't)

Tomorrow! If you're on your bike, there's a Dr Bike stall as well as a social ride at 12:30. And the weather forecast is looking tentatively hopeful too, if a little icy underwheel

:-( had intended to pop along if I could but hadn't realised it was on a weekday: no chance. Hope it goes well.

@sallyhinch, the EBC have been helpful but I am having to go to Fife tomorrow. Took exec decision as Suzanne had not got back re motor that no smoothie, it is very cold for such things. I was going to come up on the step thru council e bike but I was forced into a pot hole on it today by a beer lorry parked in bike lane hilariously known as QBC outside Bikesmith. Beer lorry was also facing wrong way. Pothole burst the tyre. Could still bring lecky bike with crossbar. Though I think event not starting until I am in Fife alas?

Was thinking it might be too cool for coolbox.
I might pop up with the LB step through e-bike - designed by Nihola in Kobenhavn.

Um, where’s the token parking space replacement?

Behind the wall. Band with NiallA were on outside.
Bike Station had two vans on the EV charging bay.
Regent Rd was assessed as too dangerous for people to be alongside out with their cars (should they have one).
Was extremely cold in shade and Scot Gov cafe not accessible without going through a security sweep.

Yup, we had to make an on-the-spot decision to move it into the private parking area, unfortunately. Lots of lessons learned - and I think we all agreed that this was a good pilot event, and we hope to do more later, but in a sunnier spot and during warmer months!

Thanks to those who dropped by (and particularly NiallA for sorting out the band, who were amazing despite frozen fingers) - we had some good conversations, and a pretty positive reaction all round. I think I'm almost thawed out now too...
