Just wondering when we should have a pre-Christmas PY meet? (Yes I know it doesn't suit everyone).

I propose next Friday 17th at around 8am at Peter's Yard.

If we set this date then people can guess the temperature, snow cover and wind direction on that day.

Winner gets a free Velo Vision magazine worth £6. All weather guesses have to be in by Sat as otherwise you can use 5 day forecast. Winner doesn't have to attend. eg - If weather returns meeting may be cancelled. Usual T&Cs apply. Your bike is at risk if path has not been gritted.

Your bike is at risk if path HAS been gritted! (Well salted anyway.)

Nope. Not until the Caley meet goes ahead or a more central option is selected (there's a nice looking wee coffee shop on the West side of Canning St)

Yes. And we need to set a time/date for the glue-wine and sausage visit to the germination chrimble markets.

In the spirt of laidback's prize suggestion, I think everyone should bring something odd and amusing from their "spare bike bits that I know I'm never going to use again, but can't bare to part with" box, giftwrapped as a secret santa present.

I was wondering just how wild your Christmas "Lunch" was going to be! Ours is on that day too but I am not planning to start at 8am. ;-)

I know I said I'd try and make the previous meetings but I will try and make this one.

-2°C (online), -1°C (ambient). Packed ice with a light surface dusting at the edges of the path, slightly crusty snow with clear patches on the Meadows, slight frosting on the path surface. 10mph, blowing south-west.

BAGH. IE is horrible, especially when overlain with a stupid McAfee sniffer. How many instances of that post were there?

Wingpig-A mere 3. I'm sure I've seen more. Board has been a bit slow for me occasionally, might have been to do with that.

It currently feels like if you go to the German market either lunchtime or after work then you'll find me there. This is good for neither my wallet nor my waistline (seeing as I haven't been on a bike for 18 days and counting).

This may be a winning entry you know!

Kaputnik Good idea about gift wrapping parts from the bits box. I have the LB Christmas card to give out too.

If everything goes to plan we could have as many as 4 at 8am. Is busy time of year so lets just see how it goes.

Hey, it's my Christmas lunch that day too. Probably won't be able to make PY unless I take a sneakily late train.

But my weather prediction shall be:
    -4 outside PY, a pleasant 20 inside.
90% of today's current snow still there, but looking decidedly scruffy by then. However a fresh 5cm will have covered it in a nicely unblemished layer, untouched by an Edinburgh populace now fed up with the white stuff.
Wind 15 - 20mph from the north east making it buff-tastically cold.

Your forecast has been noted. Two forecasts so far.

  21. By the way, I love the secret Santa idea. How do we randomise it?

by mutually exchanging them until everyone has something that isn't theirs?

And do we get our little 'spare bike bit' back afterwards?

no*, it must be something you're willing to part with (in exchange for another random part)

    * - that's my vote anyway, I don't make the rules round here :)

Now that's the real test... The idea is learning to let go... It's only a bike part!
(Unless of course it's a from Campagnolo.. although I suspect unwanted Abus U lock frame mounting brackets may be a popular choice!)

I did. I'm totally a fan of free random bike bits though! I was just hijacking Christmas for my own purposes of disposing of / acquiring them.

The problem with all my spare bike bits that I know I'm never going to use again, but can't bear to part with, is that I can't bear to part with them. The part-worn Ultegra 8spd bar end lever is a case in point: it's only partly worn out, in the sense that it's unreliable for actually shifting accurately, but shirley bits of it can be reused, if I were ever to buy spares for it. If I ever found a need for it, that is, which I might, one day. Maybe.

Don't look on it as losing a worn-out Ultegra shifter lever, look on it as gaining a new (old) bottle cage, a part functional frame pump or a Tour de France 2010 stage tracking poster (unsoiled)
