And you may find yourself behind the handlebars of a large cargo bike.

"And you may find yourself behind the handlebars of a large cargo bike."

Chatting with the owner of the Babboe trike. It's non powered with 7 speed hub gears and she cycles it up the Mound from time to time with two children on board. I thought lowest gear was too high with only one occupant but might be getting soft with all this e-stuff.
Kaimes hill challenge would be easy for her on a solo!

Open Streets Edinburgh - consultation now live:

    https://consultationhub.edinburgh.gov.uk/sfc/open-streets-edinburgh/

    Closes 3 Nov 2018

The City of Edinburgh Council wishes to develop an ‘Open Streets’ programme of vehicle-free days on the first Sunday of each month (10am–5pm) in key parts of the city centre and town centres.

Through the temporary closure of selected streets to motor traffic, the programme will allow the city centre and town centres to be experienced as quieter, more people-focussed places, where the city’s heritage, shops, cafes, restaurants and cultural attractions can be enjoyed by all without the impact of traffic congestion and air pollution.

Temporary closures will help shape longer-term plans for transforming the city and town centres to prioritise access on foot, by bike and public transport by allowing local aspirations for change to be tested and evaluated before any design work is carried out.

The programme follows the positive response from Edinburgh’s Summer Summit (21 and 22 June 2018), which saw part of George Street turned into a vehicle-free public space.

If they mean car free days they should say so; bikes are vehicles, we are the traffic etc.

Having said that, my experience of car free days is that cycling is more difficult and slower, so happy if it is kept to a non-commuting day.

cycling is more difficult and slower

This is undoubtedly true, at least for a particular group of cyclists. I would suggest that for many other people (particularly thinking of children), it is very not true.
