OK we have done coffee... now it is time for ale! Can I hear a proper good old boarding school type huzzah!
cue people actually doing this at their desks
I proposed we leave this until the new year but maybe it would be best putting it between crimbo and hogmanay as many folks have this time off and run back to work quickly to avoid eating more chocolate so I have flung up a doodle what-day-and-time-suits-me-best thing so people can select

HUZZAH!
(I shall check the day/time thingy at home rather than here where I should be doing something useful not reading cycling sites! :-o )(edited for mong typing errors!)

Argh - can't make same day as Min... was hoping to see where the red light had gone
(now if that doesn't sound dodgy nothing will)Posted 13 years ago # -
Monday and Tuesday are statutory holidays for me so Monday would be preference as it's not a school night

I'm quite good at drinking beer.
Was over there other evening and quality was superb.
I'll see what family diary looks like.

:-( That week is bad for me :-( next week is good, or into the new year however :-/

I have changed our plans and changed the doodle thing
Looks like the 30th at 7pm is the clear winnerPosted 13 years ago # -
shoot! now i'm double-booked!
Posted 13 years ago # -
I've got my diary poised... are we re-booking?
Posted 13 years ago # -
wasn't aware there was a preferred date already picked but since Min and Wingpig can both make it along albeit at different parts of the evening we could overlap them (fnarr)
Posted 13 years ago # -
from look of that, evening of 30th makes most sense for sure
Posted 13 years ago # -
I'll overlap with Wingpig. I'm not proud.
Posted 13 years ago # -
yes, go ahead. my fault for accepting a dinner invite!
Posted 13 years ago # -
yes, yes it is
You were down for the 30th you didn't update me with your plans, that's the last time I organise something with you involved :PPosted 13 years ago # -
@SRD you already know my news
Those of you that don't (a bit early to shout about it but what the hell) a new cycling kid on the block in August next year if all goes well - that's right, chalk up a new spyitfyire to add to the crew. Should I sign up a new account now or later admin? (see if they can get spam binned before they can type perhaps ;P)Posted 13 years ago # -
(Rather belated) congratulations Spytters and Mrs Spytters!

On Thurs night at 7pm in Diggers I will be identifiable [in case anyone else there which sometimes is not the case, depends if footie on] because I will have my copy of Moby-Dick for company. Call me Ishmael but I may read the first few paras. aloud - it does link in to people on this forum going stir crazy as can't get out on bike. Ishmael goes stir crazy on land and his solution is to take to the seas [he might be making a schoolboy error there, the fact that Captain Ahab has recently lost his leg does not seem to deter him, bit like cycling with two overloaded panniers from John Lewis to Balerno in the ice]
Spytes - you can wear your Dad to Be T-shirt? Congrats
Posted 13 years ago # -
@gembo, not got one... will my "also available in sober" tshirt do?
Posted 13 years ago # -
hey guys - i may be able to make this after all - where's the pub?
Posted 13 years ago # -

pub just along from caley sample room, on corner of angle park terrace and henderson terrace (nearer to you I think) cheaper and potentially better beer too!
Posted 13 years ago # -
A.k.a Athletic Arms
That's what confused me - i thought it must be the pub on the corner, but went by it on the bus the other day and saw it was called the athletic arms and got confused.
thanks, will get there if I can.

The "diggers" nickname comes from legend that it was the watering hole for the gravediggers who had just knocked off from adjoining cemetery.
They used to have a reputation for doing a fine McEwan's 80/- before S&N decided to stop cask brewing it. They made it into the Evening Chipwrapper at the time as they had Stewart Brewing concoct them their own 80/- instead of serving the keg stuff.

There is a great pub at Glasnevin Cemetry in Dublin and our own Diggers (that we are going to) is also great pub next to cemetry. Wonderful triptych painting of bar staff in maroon lab coats hanging in basement at Waverley Court. Anyone know of any other watering holes next to graveyards? Not aware of one near Highgate, what about Pere Lachaise?
Spytes Also available in sober good. Everyone else know what each other looks like?
