    Careful consultation of the oracles and casting of the runes by the shadowy CCE social committee cabal* has identified Thursday 4th October as the most auspicious date for the next CCE beers / other beverages.

    A venue will be announced as soon as the entrails have been read.

    things sacrificed
    other things burnt
    different things consulted

    Venue location is open to offers - west is possible, even further afield than Comely Bank or Shandwick Place or further isn't out of the question.

    He/she who suggests first - stands the greatest chance etc...

    Any more of this sort of thing and the entrails will be all for the Stockbridge Tap.

    I like the Dalriada and the Grey Horse but I want @gembo to get a decent ride.

    Kay's Bar in the heart of Edinburgh's slave trade past? Jamaica Street Mews.

    Fraser or Fraser's replacement might have the coal fire on. It is a bit of a squash and a squeeze. Handy for the Stockbridge massive.

    Robbie's Bar on Leith Walk

    The Artisan at the top of Easter Road

    Canny Man

    Stewart's Bow Bar on Victoria Street

    The Jolly Judge

    Or if hoping to guarantee a seat, back to The Waverley.

    This blows my dry October plans.

    “This blows my dry October plans”

    Myth 1: if you go into a pub you must drink alcohol.

    Here's what I like about the Waverley;

    1) Central
    2) Shabby decor
    3) Plenty seats
    4) Quiet (I find this important for CCE type meets of people I don't see often or don't know at all IRL. Important to hear all words when there is no shorthand to fall back on as you do with regular drinking cronies.)

    Not so keen on;

    1) No cask beer?

    Trying to remember if either the Kenilworth or Abbotsford have a big snug that might be reservable...

  22. Kay's in Jamaica Street used to be my local. Its still one of my favourite bars anywhere, despite often (in the days it was my local) not being able to finish a pint without wanting to strangle one of it's locals. It should be listed.

    +1

    Actually the Original in Roslin is really good too, and even handier for us out-of-towners. You just follow the A701 and turn left.

    Stable Bar would be fun although riding or walking home again could be less stable...

    Surely a 'big snug' is just a pub? There's an upstairs at what used to be the Meadow Bar, now Harry's Southside whose slogan 'Coffee, Cocktails, Conscience' has me wanting to blow it up. Was quiet even during the Festival.

    Quite serious about the (Un)Stable Bar, slightly worried about @jdanielp taking Simon Parker Route 7 home though.

    I could get round the contour to The Stables Bar. Quite like the sound of the veggie sharing platter. Is it open in October? The campsite must be quieter?

    Looking at the menu I did find this nugget

    "Our kitchen contains nuts, or chefs as we refer to them....."

    Open all year mate and best in winter when the Big Fire is lit.

    Roadie and MTB approaches both possible too.
