It's not obvious to me what the benefit to you would be of removing it.

Looking at Companies house I wouldn't be surprised if the driver of that vehicle was also the owner and director of the company.
Like Frenchy says I don't see what benefit removing the video would give either you or anyone else who they choose to endanger in the future.

Yeah, don't really see the benefit of taking it down. Might add a comment to acknowledge the apology.
@acsimpson why do you say it was the owner /director?
Posted 5 years ago # -
I don't have any definite reason, just a handful of pages pulled off the internet and some mixing of my personal experiences (aka biases) onto them.
Here is what I found out from companies house:
Companies house has 4 companies in the area which all share the same start to their names. 2 of these have a different founder (who shares a surname) and 1 appears inactive. The company name on the van MAMB Developments Ltd was formed in 2014 according to companies house but the website suggests the company was formed in 2007. It only has one director listed who is also the only name mentioned anywhere on the MAMB website.
It is entirely possible that the company does have employees who drive liveried vans. It's also possible that the was being driven by a sub-contractor. Finally it's possible that the van was driven by the boss.
I realise I have projected my limited past experience onto this but of the three options only the first one would surprise me. I have also displayed some rather poor availability bias in that it is not a company name I am familiar with so my bias suggested to me that it must therefore be a small company/sole trader.

Summary of March riding with a cool Heatflask image:

Getting back to work after a holiday is never easy, but cycling there makes it a whole lot more enjoyable. Here is my blog post on my return from the Easter holidays:

Mostly reporting on weekend maintenance issues. But there is a great video of my daughter on her tag-along bike showing just how much fun cycling really is:

Another month has gone already, here is an update on my commuting story. I have another cool Heatflask update as well as cost comparison and thoughts on daytime running lights.

What do you have for breakfast when you get to work? I like to mix it up but these wraps are currently amongst my favourites:

Been enjoying the good weather so much I almost missed the latest milestone getting passed on my commute this year. 3,000 miles completed now on the way to the 8,000 mile target:

Got a bit too complacent with the maintenance jobs and missed a crucial step. All was saved by an inspired colleague though:

I've had a few issues with wheels amongst other things. Anyone able to advise?
Sadly I also encountered my first puncture of the year :(
Posted 5 years ago # -
The water inside the wheel is a new one on me. Even if it got in around the spokes, I would have thought that the rim tape would prevent it from getting further. Check rim tape? But sadly water gets everywhere eventually, especially bearings. I think with your mileage I'd be buying my grease at costco...

No sign of any other wee hole in the rim? Or slight buckle in the rim?
Posted 5 years ago # -
The water is crazy. The entire space inside the tyre/rim unit should be occupied by the inflated inner tube. There should be no space for water or anything else.
Posted 5 years ago # -
The rim could have a box section with a space in it, looking at the pictures I suspect that's the case. There must at be a gap somewhere for the water to get in but I'm still surprised it has unless the bike was standing in water.
If you drain the water does it come back?
Posted 5 years ago # -
@acsimpson
Indeed, but 'taking the tyre off revealed a significant amount of water'.
So the box section would need to drain quickly into the space where the inner tube is when it's deflated. It is a mystery to me this one.

Missed that, very strange.

@CC.CC Are you sure you haven't fallen into the canal? That's the time I found water inside my tyres/wheels.

@bill how was your 200? Highlights?
We were at Innerleithen today, spotted people heading down for the RTtS. Called pal's bluff it turns out as route was 76 miles by time we were back at Currie so we went up the Kirkgate, having already climbed the granites, Roslin Glen, Shiplaw the easy way and Meldons the easy way. Nice descent from newly resurfaced west Linton moor road via Macbiehill to La Mancha earlier in the proceedings.

@gembo wrong thread!;-) but yes, not just the highlights

@bill, see other thread for my reply

My wheels must have a void in the rim between the spokes and tube. Taking the tyre off allows the water to drain out - it comes out pretty quickly.
I've read that some wheels come with a little drain hole in them just beneath the brake track for just this problem. Other times people make their own hole.
Mine don't and I don't think I'm brave enough to do it myself.

Halfway towards my annual mileage target, a whole 4 days ahead of schedule!

I really hope that every 1000 miles you sing a little song. Something along the lines:
"But I would ride 500 miles
And I would ride 500 more
Just to be the man who rides [insert the correct number] miles
To fall down at your (work?) door"Posted 5 years ago #
