...because posting about greyhounds in the "wildlife" thread seemed wrong.

Several greyhounds on the canal towpath today, including a fawn one with a scar on her face and some bells attached to her collar.

Oh, this is a good new thread.

We visited Dogs Trust West Calder and SSPCA Balerno today in our search to find our first dog. Sadly we couldn’t provide the right home to any at the moment, but there were some really lovely dugs.

I went through the same thing at the SSPCA in Balerno as well a few years ago. I'm sure you're aware of them already, but EDCH at Seafield is worth trying too.

My mum got a dug from Dogs Trust a few weeks ago. It was our third time adopting from them. What I've learned is it's better to call than rely on the website. By the time new dogs are on the website they've often been in the centre for a few days and are already reserved. Good luck!

In 2013 @Sheeptoucher went to Dog's Trust to adopt a youngish small woolly terrier cross but when he arrived she'd been adopted by someone else. So he came home with Martha instead: (late 2016 dreaming of rabbits - click through for feet-twitching video)

One part huge German shepherd, two parts collie. More fur than any dog really requires and a chilled out temperament. She was already grey when she came to us and only died late last year - a grand old lady dog!

I caught a Dalmatian on the way to Glasgow yesterday.

It wasn't coming back to its owner when called, so when I caught up with the dog, I slowed down and stopped beside it. It came up to me so I grabbed its collar and waited for the owner to catch up.

Also a tripaw greyhound on the other side of the canal further along.

When I was on Craiglockhart Hill last night, I became aware of a black and white cat watching me from a distance. It appeared to be wearing a collar but looked quite wild. I tried to approach but it retreated into the bushes. I'm going to assume that it was in hunting mode and/or is a naturally aloof cat.

Many lovely dogs in my local coffee place this week. Lots of patting, soft ears, hand licking (my hands must taste v good). Hope I'm not getting a rep as the Creepy Lady Who Smiles At Dogs, but fear that ship has sailed.

Calf with gate latch in mouth. Making a break for it? Looked pretty guilty as I passed.

Big Alsatian, long haired variety on canal tow path with massive blue tongue (plastic variety).

Rain then fell of the heavy wet variety, tho I missed my hi 5'with @jdanielp as I was asking him why he was wearing waterproofs when it wasn't raining

@gembo rain started falling heavily as I was getting ready to leave work so I decided to go with full waterproofs, including overshoes and winter gloves. This proved to be a good decision. I will have been mostly responsible for missing the high five I suspect.

@jdanielp, I wish I had put mine on instead of toughing it out until the Easter hailes gait. I was very wet

@unhurt: I’m of the view that if you are going to take your dog to a pub or cafe then you should be ok with it being smiled at.

Greyhound carrying a tennis ball in its mouth along the street. I've met a lot of greyhounds, some of which will chase tennis balls, but this is the first time I've seen one carrying a ball like that.

Big black dog too, out in the heat. My own big black greyhound wouldn't have been able to hold on to a ball for panting, even if he wanted to.

The white and splodgy cat was on the towpath near Bridge 8 hub again this morning. I slowed down to pass it and made cat noises as I did so in greeting/so as not to scare it. Shortly after I had passed by, I heard the person behind ring their bell, presumably at it. I hope it takes care.

One of my dogs just pretended to be choking so that I would relinquish my spot on the sofa to them.

Looked me right in the eyes as they did it. Devious.

Hah! My brother’s old dog did something similar. When the younger dog had bagged a spot on the couch the older one would go sniffing and pawing at something until the younger one couldn’t control her nosiness and would jump down to investigate. The older one would then shrug off her arthritis and jump on to the vacated spot. She did it so often that I thought the younger one was eventually just humouring her.

Saw a cat lying motionless on the pavement earlier. I went over to check if it was alive, and noticed that it already had flies crawling over it.

Turned out to just be enjoying a deep sleep in the sun, and I felt rather bad for waking it up, but I really thought it was dead.

Move over skinny dog cause the fat dog’s moving in

The white and splodgy cat was running purposefully along the towpath away from Bridge 8 Hub towards the 'S' bend this morning so I greeted it in passing. One morning last week I spotted it in one of the small trees along there.

Definitely not a highlight: my brother’s dog was hit by a car yesterday. My 14yo niece was walking her on lead. Something spooked the dug and she jumped off the pavement. Fortunately the car was going slowly, but she’s got a broken leg: we’ll find out tomorrow if it needs to be amputated. My niece is devastated.

    Drive slowly folks.

Huskies yesterday at Harrison Gardens. Wildest looking domesticated animals? Apart from the wolf that some people have out on the wol path at times. WoL path yesterday dry and not slippy but lots of dog walkers talking to each other and dogs at odd angles
