CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Bill should be there soon at Inners
Going well when I joined for a spell on the old ring road.
Cheered to know the forum is tracking our Amigos
A cattle grid installation in Yorkshire land has caused a 3km detour in terms of total distance but the other road somehow manages to be very up and down like thousands of feet more climbing.
Hills are not really your friend after 800km

According to my source, the diversion was hell, but apparently the Yadd Moss road was actually open.
All our lot are doing brill. The heat has taken its toll - I know of two very hardened riders packing.
@amir that’s correct, I hear (Yad Moss, I mean)
@HankChief dining at Innerleithen in a Tour de Islay jersey if you are around
Also someone seems to have stolen the Granites and replaced them with something
’significant’
Sorry to have missed you @murun. I was at the check in desk when lots arrived.
Including @bill.
Looking strong; keep pedalling
Bill has departed in good spirits.
Acsimpson is through Dunfermline and headed home for some rest to avoid the impending chaos in Innerleithen tonight.
We still have 1100 riders to come through and with the next sleep stop 110km away expecting a lot of tired riders looking for a bed.
Our 1st tandemnisters have arrived - they weren't complementary of the routing through Edinburgh during the festival..
I think the Yadd Moss rollercoaster may have caused bunching
All of our three heroes are avoiding innerleithen no room at the inn. smart
Murun is heading for Brampton too.
I quite like this armchair analysis I am spouting.
Brampton now perhaps expected to be chaos also, reports already of riders sleeping on floors
Although tbf that would not be a lot worse than a dorm if you can find a quiet place
Hada pleasant evening cheering on riders going through Bonnyrigg. Lots of locals what was up with all these cyclists day and night. Nice chat with another cyclist buddie making good progress
Brampton not as bad as feared. Even got towels
6am update.
@Murun & Bill at Brampton soon after midnight.
@acsimpson through Innerleithen at Daybreak. In good spirits and helped a very cold riders off the granites and I to the control.
900 riders through Innerleithen, 250ish to go and coffee machines have packed up. We nearly ran out of milk but managed to strip the corner shop of their supplies - sorry to any Innerleith residents hoping for milk this morning.
1st elliptical bike at Innerleithen
Towels at Brampton - luxury.
Back from a great but long 24h volunteering at Innerleithen, which when coupled with Sundays set up was quite the slog but really good fun! Definitely inspired for 2025. Bill was (as always) in inimitable cheery spirits as she left us on Tuesday evening. I have some photos but no idea how to embed here. On my Fb/Strava for those that have it.
Only left as hosting visitors at work today (half asleep!)
Nice finally to put faces to @hankchief and discover @mb was someone I already was acquainted with through my own events but under his real name.
@hankchief - how did last night go? Hope not too chaotic!
Spotted a couple of LELers making a slightly dodgy manoeuvre at Shandwick Place at about 10pm last night.
Rode the section past the airfield and down to Kirknewton on my way to work this morning but I assume everyone was long gone.
Muchos kudos to the CCE riders and volunteers!!!!
Going to be hot today and many will be in the diabolical hills of northern England.
I passed a couple of LELers riding along Mayfield Road, from India. I gave them some encouragement before the mur de Mayfield Road and Kirk Brae. They looked a little off pace even downhill. I hope they make it.
@edinburgh87 good photo of you hsnkchief and bill. Great work on volunteering Pretty busy I bet. I am hearing the cattle grid detour might be avoidable
Wed 12.30 update
@Murun & @Bill have made it over the Pennines to Barnard Castle. Expect that would have been some tough climbing back over Killhope & Chapel Fell in the heat.
@acsimpson is at Brampton no doubt recharging before following them over the Pennines.
Here at Innerleithen, we've had 1060 riders through and have started closing down the control.
Last night got busy but the team managed to keep it together.
Great work @Hankchief
At least I was in the shade. I don't envy the riders out in the scorching weather today and with even hotter weather tomorrow.
Chapeau one & all
Saw some stragglers on the NEPN earlier. They looked pretty weary.
32 degrees in the Howardian Hills just now. Filled bidons from a graveyard tap. Must be something like getting one’s Audax wings
@murun, a bit like in true grit where the texas rangers are reduced to drinking water from a hoofprint?
Respeck
Here's the northbound stamp at the Barnard Castle control point...

:-)
Looks like our intrepid riders made good progress today with @Bill & @Murun at Malton & @Acsimpson already through Barnard Castle & heading to Malton.
All will have a very hot (>30c) & flattish ride down the East of England tomorrow.
Keep pedalling - we're all rooting for you!
Following on forum and twitter definitely the way to do LEL.
Great volunteer effort @edinburgh87 @hankchief and others. Think most but not all have done Audaxing which would help to understand rider needs!
I met three riders yesterday on walk with my daughter as we crossed Queen's Drive. Wished them well. One was from India.
This morning daughter was with her friend that runs coffee van at Scotland St. LEL riders stopping there before heading up Broughton St via ramp above tunnel I think?
They were pleased that they knew about it as still undetected by most media as really community effort that's below the radar.
One last question - in 2017 there were a few non standard bike but less this time? Eliptigos and Bromptons obviously must be harder to ride an Audax on but recliners seem to have gone or maybe were DNFs?
