Doing much better in Scotland, note this is an actual Scotland poll not a subsample https://www.bestforbritain.org/vote2?region=Scotland

this is an actual Scotland poll not a subsample

It says on it that it's a poll of 9,260 adults with 'substantial subsamples in every GB European election region' so we don't know n for Scotland, let alone the weightings.

Cycle there. Take a change of clothes so you can smarten up on arrival. You can put them in a panni---

I took the train. The day had elements of farce and of joy. Try crossing the M8 on foot with someone disabled and visually impaired again? Not if I can help it.

I'd like Sustrans to make and keep a vow of absolute silence until there is a safe, direct and practical route between Scotland's principal cities, 44 miles apart as they are.

crossing the M8 to get to The Bon Accord?

No, more surreal. To get from St Georges Cross to Garnethill. My bro used to live in Glasgow so I trusted him but never again.

I'd have gone drinking with my uncle but the day was logistically weird and it didn't work out and I didn't cycle and the whole world has gone weird.

I'm late to the party - This is the route I did on Sunday. The path seemed untarred around the Ratho climbing centre, but looking at the Google Street View it appears tarred. Maybe it was just covered in a layer of leaves and mud.

Mate of mine in Switzerland wants us to do Pedal fer Scotchland in September. I imagine that takes the Sustrans route?
I did The Big Belter last year (I still blame my friend for my horrendous time). Strava Flyby shows dozens of folk on the normal-length route; this: https://www.strava.com/activities/1830524148

st georges to garnethill, i'd have gone under the road via the area formerly known as Cowcaddens, the area the road destroyed by heading east from the Carnarvon Bar. Past the old steamie and then out the high rises the other side. I would have to have had a good reason for doing so,. like a film at the GFT or meeting my friends from Stow College who aasked me to be in their band but when I said no they got that Stuart Murdoch instead (total lie)

@Edinburgh Cycle Cam, some ingress from vegetati0on and a few puddles but tarmacadam (other brands of ashphalt are available) all the way.

Sustrans and Scottish Canals have both confirmed that the towpath is tarred all the way from Ratho to Linlithgow, which I think means it is tarred all the way from Edinburgh to Glasgow (except some cobbled bits on the aquaducts).

Hoping to ride out that way on Saturday, weather permitting.

Borrowing this topic for my own routing advice: Melrose to Berwick on Saturday afternoon. Assume NC1 is the nicest way to go? https://goo.gl/maps/Fhk4CcHqpZ1iQ4z36

Just looking to have a nice slightly downhill trundle after a 6 year old's birthday party. Chips on the train (or a pub feed if I arrive in time). Have ages, leaving 14:30ish, train is at 20:25.

Another option is to head southeast from Horncliffe, then cross the from the south west (B6354).

Neither option is a particularly nice way of getting across the A1, but worth a gander on Street View to see if you have a preference.

Entering Berwick from the southwest does mean going past Unthank, but also means you have to cross the Tweed in Berwick. That means you get a great view of the other two bridges.

Restoring the thread drift to the original (off)topic - interesting advice on maximising remain vs minimising Brexit party seats at the Euro elections (TOMORROW) https://www.politics.co.uk/comment-analysis/2019/05/22/the-remain-strategy-region-by-region-voting-guide

Ah, this is based on subsample polling. The last Scottish-weighted full Scottish poll that I could find has the Greens on 4%.

    https://twitter.com/EuropeElects/status/1129907848182403072

The quota seems to be around 11% for a seat so big swing required for that recommendation to work.

Thanks, @Frenchy. Tempted by bridge views...

BTW anyone know where the best chippie and / or pub with food is in Berwick?

Cycled along the canal towpath network from Edinburgh to Glasgow today.

Can confirm that, apart from the cobbled bits at aquaducts, tunnels and weirs, it is tarred the whole way.

Those cobbled bits between Edinburgh and Falkirk, along with the barriers between Falkirk and Glasgow, seriously devalue the route, which is otherwise really quite nice.

@frenchy, stiff wind going west? Hope not too wet?

Cobbles to slow ypu when you might fall in

Chicanes to stop the wee radges on their motorbikes

    Does make it a slog

Good that paved all the way now tho - well done Sustrans/Scottish canals

Wind noticeable, but not too bad. Drizzled the whole way, without ever raining properly, so I got damp but didn't need to resort to waterproofs.

Think I'd've been under 5 hours door to door if I hadn't gotten lost between the end of the canal and Glasgow city centre.
