I agree with chdot! With all the big stuff going on, a lot of which is out of our control, or we will only have tiny bit of influence over, I'm concentrating on the bit of Scotland I can change. POP has already taken a few steps in the right direction, with the doubling in funding, but we need to keep pressing on if we're going to see the sort of changes that actually move the needle on things like climate change, well-being and transport poverty. It may seem trivial when we're staring into the abyss but surely it comes under the heading of lighting a candle rather than cursing the darkness?
Over the years, POP has lost many of its original organising crew and we will need a key group of people in Edinburgh if we're to manage to get an impressive turnout in 2021 without it all falling on the shoulders of one or two exhausted people.
There's a good group of committed, creative souls on this forum and it would only take a half dozen of you to coordinate some really creative and effective protests in Edinburgh this coming May - and then to build on that for a national event in 2021 that shows the rest of the world that Scotland really does want to become a better nation.
And now, with the sermon over, I'm off in search of some gin.
