I'm emailing from Spokes.
As you will know, the Spokes Bulletin normally includes a centre-page supplement on a current theme.
For the next bulletin, we intend the supplement to be examples of 'local cycle campaigning' – this includes individuals or groups, some involved in spokes, others quite separate – in other words a real mix of the kind of campaigning activity going on in Edinburgh and the Lothians, where people are trying locally to get things changed for the better for getting about by bike.
We are also planning our next public meeting to be on the same theme, so the supplement will be a good background for that.
In the supplement, we will probably have space to cover 8 or so different examples, and we hope you (as listed below) can provide one of them. Each topic will probably occupy roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of an A5 page in the supplement.
So, can you spend a bit of time over the holiday, preparing no more than about 300 words, and (if possible), looking out one or two (or more) pictures which we can choose from, ideally with yourself in at least one of them (or a mugshot). Your text may have to be edited/ shortened somewhat, depending on what we receive from everyone.
Please choose whatever you think illustrates something interesting to others about your efforts. Try to think of what might inspire or help others, rather than too much on the nitty-gritty detail of any particular issue. For example, you could cover any one or more of the following. It is entirely up to you.
Why you got involved and how it has affected your life
A success you have achieved, and how
A failure you encountered, and the lessons from that
An ongoing campaign
How and why your group (if you are a group) started
Or anything else you think might inspire others to act locally
Could you please reply to me by Sunday 5 January with your text and pictures. If you'd prefer someone else from your group (if any) to do this, please arrange with them and let me know.
