I think we need a thread specifically for unnecesary "Cyclists Dismount" signs. Here's my first contribution

Do you want to guess what Murrayfield CC think about people not discounting?

Most mornings last week there was a truck unloading so I dismounted for that, other wise I've just cruised through at walking pace.

Murrayfield CC against people not Discounting? Really? I thought they would be happy to pay full price. :-)

Money stashed in off shore accounts to avoid tax = Not a crime
    Cyclist ignoring a sign = A crime

    It is their rules

Cyclists ignoring signs purporting to have legal force is not a crime.

Signs impersonating legal signs might be.

Signs saying things like ‘building working in progress, restricted space, we apologise for any inconvenience’

    and

‘Proceed with caution, share with care’

    might suit most people.

Community councils are the most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland. They bridge the gap between local authorities and communities, and help to make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent.

Key thing is reasonable interpretation of “represent”.

Too many CCs represent the views of the people ON the CC - which may or may not reflect the views of many/majority in the neighbourhood.

    might suit most people.

The signs in Roseburn park a while back when the council were working on the lights were along the lines of "cyclist proceed at walking pace."

    Seemed fair to me.

I have plans to join mine to add some other (though perhaps no more representative?) views...

Let's save space and instead report "Cyclists remount" signs☺

What Colonies Chris says about the path width is true when you see it as per his photo. However, I've been through it three times with a group and we have elected to give the scaffolders a bit of respect and walk rather than swerve about using them as some sort of mobile slalom course.

We always get good humoured, grateful, thanks. It doesn't do any harm to improve the image now and then. I won't hesitate to ride through when the scaffolders have gone, sign or no sign. Those tradesmen working on the bridge will be out of site over the parapet, on the scaffolding.

Of course, to be strictly within the requirements of the CDM Regulations the entire live worksite should be fenced off but then we'd be left with, at very best, a handlebars width to get through and I'm sure we prefer it as it is.

A few of us had a wee game of catch with the scaffolders the other day when one of them dropped his glubs. I'm only ever going through it at peak commuting-time when there's a mix of peds and bikes and buggies all going through in both directions, so walking seems only polite and sensible, should walking bean option.

Walking might be the best option at times, however walking with a bike always leaves me less stable and wider than when I ride at walking pace.

Thankfully I don't normally cross the viaduct so my personal choice will remain unobserved.

I often walk but with the bike between my legs. Sub optimal

They had their van abutting the southern end of the scaffold again this morning. So done got a "dismount, pal" yelled at them by one of the workies' just after I'd come through.

Needs a "Stay Awesome" sticker to go over the "Dismount" part.

Honestly, there really is no need to dismount there, unless there are actual vans or workers blocking the path.

The path there is still no less wide than other narrower parts further along. Just creates animosity and hatred.

Whether or not people on bikes should/be expected to dismount is one thing.

Clearly the signage doesn’t work, for various reasons.

Didn’t something similar happen on MMW and improved signage was created?

CEC and it’s contractors really should ‘understand’/be given clear guidelines.

This has a much better sign AND good reason to comply with.

WHY is like this is yet another problem.

Thank you for reporting the WoL one. I've been cycling through, as it's absolutely not necessary to dismount.

Further east, there's no such sign for the scaffolding, even though the path is narrower there and it's in the middle of the dog sh-- slalom.

(What is WRONG with the people who walk dogs on that stretch?)

i thought I was going to get thumped by the guy walking ahead of me going through there today. I wish they'd get those signs down.

And today, someone deliberately blocked the entire path while walking his bike, to force me to a stop.
I wonder what happiness tomorrow will bring?

nope, mid-30s office worker, living in leith for the 'first rung on the housing ladder' real estate.

i use this path daily, this is the very time i've seen people get ratty about it.

does anyone know why those signs were ever put there? they weren't up before christmas.

it took weeks for the 'path completely closed today' sign to go, and i think that was only because someone knocked it over.

A boards, I heard they just get kicked over from time to time and buried under shrubbery?

a friend of mine had a go at the initial dismount signs at Coltbridge. He now reports they have been replaced with someone much sturdier.

although that said, I think i noticed the west-bound one now buried with the expanding scaffolding - suspect it'll be re-positioned soon enough.

Friend might return with a claw-hammer, he/she says.
